Estate administration is a significant part of our practice, and we are looking for someone who already understands the probate and estate administration process and is capable of helping manage estate files from opening through final accounting and closing. Prior estate administration experience is strongly preferred. Experience working in a North Carolina Clerk of Superior Court's office—particularly in the Estates Division—will be considered in lieu of law firm experience. What You'll Do The Estate Administration / Probate Paralegal will work closely with our attorney(s) and support team to: Assist with estate administration files from opening through closing; Prepare applications, petitions, notices, inventories, accountings, affidavits, and other probate filings for attorney review; Calendar and monitor estate deadlines and filing requirements; Communicate with Clerk of Superior Court personnel regarding estate filings and procedural matters; Gather and organize information concerning assets, debts, creditors, heirs, and beneficiaries; Assist with the collection, valuation, transfer, and distribution of estate assets; Assist with creditor notices and claims; Prepare calculations and schedules relating to inventories, accountings, distributions, and commissions; Communicate with executors, administrators, beneficiaries, financial institutions, accountants, and other professionals; Follow up proactively on outstanding documents, signatures, asset information, and other items needed to keep estates moving forward; and Maintain accurate and well-organized estate files. Who We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is experienced, organized, dependable, detail-oriented, proactive, and brings a stellar attitude to work each day. The right person will understand that estate administration involves more than preparing forms. Our clients are often navigating the loss of someone they love while simultaneously dealing with unfamiliar legal and financial responsibilities. We want someone who can manage the technical details of an estate while treating clients with patience, professionalism, and compassion. You should be comfortable managing multiple active files and deadlines, communicating directly with clients and court personnel, and taking responsibility for moving matters toward completion.

Qualifications Preferred qualifications include:

Prior estate administration or probate experience in a law firm; OR Experience working with estates through a North Carolina Clerk of Superior Court's office; Working knowledge of North Carolina probate and estate administration procedures; Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills; Ability to independently manage deadlines and follow-up responsibilities; Strong technology and electronic file-management skills; Experience with PracticePanther, North Carolina Odyssey, e-filing systems, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Outlook is a plus; and Paralegal degree or certificate preferred. A paralegal degree is preferred but is not required for candidates with substantial relevant experience. And, because this is estate administration and we believe in being completely transparent about the job requirements: possession of a superhero cape and/or prior magician training is also considered a plus on most days.
