The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience. RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Litigation and Patient Care Services Paralegal to join our Legal Affairs team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive legal support to the AVP & Senior Counsel, Litigation and Patient Care Services and Associate Counsel, Litigation & Patient Care Services, focusing on guardianships, subpoenas, and board matters. Coordinate critical clinical-legal workflows, draft legal documents, and act as a liaison between healthcare providers, social workers, court systems, and internal legal counsel. This role is critical in supporting a high-volume, fast-paced environment within one of New Jersey's largest nonprofit healthcare systems, serving a diverse network of hospitals, medical groups, and affiliates. A typical day as a Paralegal looks like: Draft pleadings: Prepare guardianship petitions, notices, and other legal documents. Review documents and respond to Subpoenas for documents and information, including redacting documents.
Physician coordination:
Work with doctors to secure timely, accurate clinical certifications.
Court liaison:
Follow up directly with Court staff to track case statuses and hearing dates. Long length of stay (LOS) coordination: Distribute weekly updates for LOS meeting.
Subpoena responses:
Assist attorneys in reviewing and responding to subpoenas.
Board matters:
Gather evidence and draft responses for state licensing board inquiries.
Legal Research:
Perform legal research as needed.
Communication:
Communicate with court staff, clients, family, and interested parties in guardianship matters. To be considered for this role you must have: Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program required. Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in a law firm, preferably with guardianship and/or personal injury experience. Experience with drafting pleadings to be submitted to the court and reviewing medical records. Experience with responding to Subpoenas for documentation and/or information. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities from multiple attorneys in a fast-paced environment. High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Experience with document management systems e.g., iManage, DocuSign, etc. Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when dealing with confidential and sensitive matters. Collaborative and proactive approach.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in litigation and/or working in a law firm environment. Exposure to personal injury and/or guardianships. Working knowledge of AI-enabled legal tools or experience in and/or interest in supporting digital innovation in legal workflows.
