As our Medicaid and Elder Law practice continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and highly organized Medicaid / Elder Law Paralegal to join our team. Position Overview The Medicaid Paralegal will work closely with our attorneys and Medicaid team to assist clients throughout the Medicaid long-term care planning and application process. This position requires someone who can manage multiple cases and deadlines, communicate confidently with clients and families, gather and analyze detailed financial information, and maintain consistent follow-up with county agencies, nursing facilities, financial institutions, and other professionals. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of assignments from beginning to completion. Key Responsibilities Assist attorneys with Medicaid planning and long-term care cases Prepare and submit Medicaid applications, renewals, and supporting documentation Gather, review, organize, and analyze financial records, including bank statements, investment accounts, retirement accounts, insurance policies, deeds, and other asset information Assist with Medicaid spend-down and asset-protection planning under attorney supervision Track Medicaid eligibility requirements, resource limits, deadlines, and case status Prepare documentation related to Qualified Income Trusts and other Medicaid planning strategies Communicate regularly with clients and family members regarding outstanding documents, deadlines, and case progress Communicate and follow up with county Job and Family Services agencies regarding pending Medicaid applications Coordinate with nursing facilities, assisted-living communities, financial institutions, accountants, and other professionals Respond to requests for additional verification and documentation from Medicaid caseworkers Assist attorneys with Medicaid hearings and administrative appeals Maintain detailed case notes and organized electronic client files Calendar and monitor critical deadlines and follow-up dates Provide regular case-status updates to supervising attorneys Assist with related elder law, estate planning, and probate matters as needed What We're Looking For The successful candidate should possess: Prior paralegal or legal assistant experience; Medicaid, Elder Law, Probate, Estate Planning, or related experience strongly preferred Experience handling Ohio Medicaid long-term care applications is highly desirable Strong organizational and case-management skills Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Ability to review and organize substantial financial documentation Strong written and verbal communication skills Professional and compassionate client-service skills Ability to communicate effectively with elderly clients, adult children, caregivers, nursing facilities, and government agencies Ability to independently follow up on outstanding matters without requiring constant direction Strong time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team Comfort working in a fast-paced, growing law practice Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and effectively utilize legal practice-management technology The Person Who Will Thrive Here We are looking for more than someone who simply completes assigned tasks.
