Quality Assurance Food Safety Supervisor

Job Description

  • Job Description The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all walnut processing operations meet internal and external quality and food safety standards.
This role oversees daily quality control activities, manages inspection teams, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., USDA, FDA, GFSI), and drives continuous improvement across the facility. The Quality Control Supervisor with BRC experience is a huge advantage for our company as it aims to achieve and maintain BRC certification.
Responsibilities:
Conduct daily record reviews of CCPs (FSMA PCs) for metal detection ensuring that the report was prepared correctly and any deviation was clearly recorded. Immediately address record issues through on-the-job coaching. Ensure correct CCP documentation is received for steam pasteurized products. Become PCQI, Internal Auditor, and HACCP Certified Approves customer markings for bulk boxes and creates markings for retail packing. Review documentation verification for retail and packing product checkpoints Manage traceability of dumped products, purchased products, and rework such as café, meal/grizzly bins. Organize taste panel, prescreen sensitive customers' product for FFA/PV, and communicate results to team Supervise QC on floor, manage staff scheduling, and approve Kronos timecards Train QC Techs to follow company procedures and policies and coach all employees in food safety and quality topics Assign inventory stock per customer specification to CAP, coordinate additional laboratory testing, custom fumigation, or other customer requirements, if applicable. Communicate inventory exhaustion and other stock assignment complications to the team immediately. Update CAP daily with lots produced in bulk cases and retail packing Manage table-ready inventory noting the location of bin, bin amount, shell grade, variety, and origin of product where data eventually used for efficient blending of product. Oversee and maintain accurate records of held product inventory to ensure proper segregation, tracking, and timely resolution. Conduct positive release of product with complex specifications, ensuring all aspects of the product meets customer specifications. Ensure the lots assigned to orders use FIFO, re-assign lots as necessary, and communicate changes Place noncompliant product on hold on the production schedule and the hold log and notify team of deviation
Qualifications:
Associate or bachelor's degree in food science, Agriculture, Biology or related field (preferred) 3-5 years of experience in quality control in a food manufacturing environment; walnut or tree nut industry experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of USDA grading standards for walnuts, GFSI standards (e.g., BRC, SQF), HACCP, GMPs, and FSMA requirements. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and QA software systems. In-depth knowledge of BRC Global Standards and experience managing BRC audits. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in manufacturing environments, which may involve exposure to food production areas with varying temperatures and conditions. May require standing, walking, and moving around production facilities for extended periods.
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
