BDI Marine Contractors, LLC is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Manager to lead and manage our company-wide safety program. This position will work closely with field leadership, project management, and company ownership to promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance across our marine, heavy civil, utility, concrete, and sitework operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on safety professional who is comfortable spending significant time in the field, conducting inspections, training employees, correcting unsafe conditions, and maintaining the documentation necessary to meet OSHA, insurance, client, and company requirements. Responsibilities Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company's safety policies, procedures, and programs. Perform regular jobsite safety inspections and audits across active construction projects. Identify unsafe conditions and work practices and coordinate immediate corrective action with Superintendents, Foremen, Project Managers, and field leadership. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable federal, state, local, client, and company safety requirements. Lead new-hire safety orientations and ongoing employee safety training. Develop and conduct toolbox talks, refresher training, and job-specific safety training. Maintain accurate documentation of employee training, certifications, inspections, corrective actions, and safety meetings. Maintain OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 records and assist with required reporting. Manage incident, injury, near-miss, and property-damage investigations, including root-cause analysis and corrective-action plans. Coordinate workers' compensation claims, return-to-work efforts, and injury documentation with HR and insurance representatives. Work directly with insurance carriers, safety consultants, and auditors during safety inspections and loss-control visits. Review project-specific safety requirements and develop Site-Specific Safety Plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs/JSA), and related documentation. Monitor PPE compliance and ensure appropriate safety equipment is available and properly used. Track employee certifications and coordinate required renewals and training. Assist with DOT, equipment, vehicle, and other applicable construction-safety compliance requirements. Participate in project planning meetings to identify potential hazards before work begins. Monitor subcontractor safety performance and documentation. Provide coaching and accountability to field supervisors regarding enforcement of company safety policies. Track safety trends, incidents, leading indicators, and corrective actions and provide regular reporting to management. Serve as the company's primary resource for construction safety questions and regulatory compliance. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience , preferably within heavy civil, marine construction, utilities, concrete, excavation, or infrastructure construction. Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926) . Experience conducting jobsite inspections, incident investigations, and employee safety training. Experience developing and administering construction safety programs and written policies. OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required. OSHA 500, CHST, CSP, or similar safety certification strongly preferred. CPR/First Aid/AED instructor certification preferred. Strong understanding of JHAs/JSA, competent-person requirements, fall protection, excavation/trenching, confined spaces, cranes/rigging, heavy equipment, and construction PPE. Excellent documentation, communication, coaching, and organizational skills. Ability to confidently address unsafe behaviors and hold employees and supervisors accountable. Comfortable working independently and managing multiple active construction projects. Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly to jobsites. Physical & Field Requirements This is a field-oriented construction safety position. The employee must be able to regularly visit active construction sites and work around heavy equipment, excavation, marine operations, concrete activities, uneven terrain, heat, and other typical construction-site conditions. The position may require climbing, walking extended distances, standing for extended periods, and wearing required PPE.
