We are seeking a proactive, highly organized, and field-oriented Safety Manager to lead and continuously improve our company-wide safety program. This position supports approximately 70 field-service employees working in demanding industrial environments where safety performance, regulatory compliance, customer requirements, and disciplined project execution are critical. The Safety Manager will oversee safety-program administration, field audits, employee training, OSHA and MSHA compliance, incident investigation and case management, safety reporting, customer prequalification systems, and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring frequent travel, a strong field presence, and the ability to earn the trust and respect of experienced employees, supervisors, project managers, customers, and executive leadership. The successful candidate must be equally comfortable conducting field audits, coaching supervisors, investigating incidents, managing workers' compensation cases, delivering training, developing policies, and presenting safety performance to company leadership. Safety Leadership & Authority The Safety Manager will lead and administer the company's safety-management system while partnering with operational leaders, project managers, supervisors, and employees to maintain accountability throughout the organization. The Safety Manager will have the authority to: Stop work when an imminent danger, serious unsafe condition, or material safety violation is identified. Require immediate correction of unsafe conditions and work practices. Remove unsafe equipment from service. Require additional employee training, coaching, or qualification. Escalate unresolved safety concerns directly to executive and operational leadership. Participate in decisions involving retraining, project safety planning, corrective action, and employee discipline. Every employee retains the responsibility and authority to stop work when an unsafe condition exists. Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Program Management Develop, implement, manage, and continuously improve the company-wide safety program. Establish clear safety expectations for employees, supervisors, project managers, subcontractors, and visitors. Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, MSHA, state, local, customer, insurance, and contractual requirements . Monitor regulatory and customer requirement changes and communicate necessary actions to leadership. Develop annual safety objectives, training requirements, audit schedules, performance measures, and improvement initiatives. Serve as the company's primary internal safety authority and a key contact for customers, regulatory agencies, insurance representatives, and third-party compliance organizations. Promote a practical safety culture built around field engagement, hazard recognition, employee participation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Policies, Procedures & Safety Programs Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the company safety manual, policies, procedures, forms, inspections, and training materials.

Fall Protection Confined Space Lockout/Tagout Cranes, Hoisting & Rigging Forklifts & Powered Industrial Trucks Aerial Lifts / MEWPs Hot Work, Welding & Cutting Respiratory Protection Personal Protective Equipment Hazard Communication Electrical Safety Silica & Dust Exposure Material Handling Vehicle & Driver Safety Emergency Response Incident Investigation Fatigue / Extended-Hour Work Contractor & Subcontractor Safety Pre-Job Safety Planning Review customer safety requirements before employees mobilize to projects. Participate in project kickoff and preconstruction meetings when appropriate. Assist project managers and field supervisors with site-specific safety plans, JHAs/JSAs, lift plans, rescue plans, permits, and other required safety documentation. Verify employees have required training, certifications, PPE, site credentials, and customer orientations before beginning work. Identify project-specific safety risks during estimating and planning. Verify subcontractors and temporary workers meet company and customer safety requirements. Field Audits & Inspections Maintain a visible and consistent presence at active field-service projects. Conduct planned and unannounced safety audits at customer locations. Evaluate compliance with company policies, customer requirements, OSHA, MSHA, and accepted safe-work practices. Inspect work areas, access systems, tools, equipment, rigging, lifting devices, mobile equipment, PPE, permits, and safety documentation. Evaluate supervisor and employee understanding of hazards, controls, emergency procedures, and project expectations. Document findings and assign corrective actions, responsible parties, and completion dates. Verify corrective actions are completed and effective before closing findings. Provide leadership with recommendations for coaching, retraining, recognition, or corrective action. Training & Employee Qualification Develop and maintain a company-wide training and certification matrix. Conduct new-hire safety orientation and recurring employee training. Deliver or coordinate OSHA, MSHA, First Aid, CPR, AED, and task-specific training within applicable instructor authorizations. Develop toolbox talks, safety alerts, lessons learned, and supervisor training materials. Coordinate third-party training when required. Ensure employees do not perform regulated or safety-sensitive work without current qualifications. Coach supervisors on effective pre-shift meetings, toolbox talks, hazard reviews, and employee safety interventions. Incident Investigation & Case Management Establish and maintain a consistent process for reporting injuries, incidents, property damage, vehicle accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions. Respond to significant incidents and travel to project locations when an on-site investigation is required. Lead investigations using a structured root-cause methodology. Identify immediate causes, contributing factors, organizational causes, corrective actions, and preventive measures. Determine applicable OSHA and MSHA recordability and reporting requirements. Maintain OSHA logs and required safety documentation. Develop and track corrective and preventive actions through closure. Analyze incident, near-miss, observation, and audit trends to identify recurring risks. Work closely with Human Resources and insurance representatives on workers' compensation claims, return-to-work programs, medical restrictions, and case management . Support
OSHA/MSHA
inspections, customer investigations, insurance reviews, and legal inquiries as directed. Customer Prequalification & Compliance Systems Administer and maintain the company's standing within systems including: Avetta ISNetworld PEC Safety PICS or successor platforms Safety council systems Customer-specific contractor qualification portals Maintain required insurance information, safety statistics, written programs, training records, regulatory documentation, and supporting materials. Identify deficiencies that could affect customer access, bidding eligibility, contractor approval, or company reputation and coordinate corrective action with appropriate departments. Records & Document Control Maintain employee certifications, licenses, training records, medical clearances, and site-access credentials. Track expiration dates and communicate upcoming requirements. Maintain incident reports, audit records, corrective actions, training documentation, OSHA logs, MSHA records, toolbox talks, and regulatory correspondence. Utilize Procore and other company systems to maintain field safety documentation. Protect confidential medical, personnel, and investigation information. Executive Reporting Prepare a weekly safety report for executive leadership. Track and communicate incidents, investigations, audits, corrective actions, training status, credential expirations, customer-prequalification status, regulatory concerns, positive observations, and emerging risks. Develop meaningful leading and lagging safety-performance indicators. Present safety performance during management and operating-review meetings. Immediately communicate significant hazards or compliance concerns. Prepare annual safety-performance summaries and recommendations. Leadership & Organizational Development Build productive relationships with field employees, supervisors, project managers, customers, and executive leadership. Serve as a coach and resource while maintaining accountability. Develop supervisors into stronger day-to-day safety leaders. Participate in recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and employee-development decisions involving safety-sensitive positions. Assist leadership in defining safety accountability throughout the organization. Develop recommendations for future safety staffing, budgets, technology, training, and resources. Represent the company professionally during customer meetings, audits, regulatory interactions, conferences, and safety councils. Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible safety experience within industrial construction, industrial maintenance, heavy manufacturing, mining, field service, or a closely related environment. Minimum 2 years of safety leadership, supervisory, or company-wide program-management experience . Demonstrated experience managing and improving a safety program. Strong field experience auditing active crews and addressing hazards in real time. Current OSHA #500, OSHA #501, or both. Current MSHA-approved Part 48 instructor authorization / MSHA Blue Card. Ability to maintain applicable OSHA and MSHA instructor authorizations. Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification. First Aid/CPR/AED instructor authorization or ability to obtain promptly. Working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA requirements applicable to industrial construction, maintenance, mining, and customer-site operations. Strong knowledge of fall protection, confined spaces, lockout/tagout, rigging, lifting operations, forklifts, aerial lifts, hot work, and PPE. Experience conducting audits, documenting findings, assigning corrective actions, and verifying closure. Experience investigating injuries, near misses, property damage, and vehicle incidents. Experience with workers' compensation, return-to-work programs, injury recordkeeping, and case management . Strong Microsoft Office skills and ability to learn Procore, customer portals, training platforms, and safety-management software. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, training, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and confidence to stop unsafe work regardless of schedule pressure. Valid driver's license and ability to meet company vehicle requirements. Ability and willingness to travel extensively. Preferred Qualifications Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, or related discipline. CSP, CHST, OHST, or comparable professional safety certification. Both OSHA #500 and OSHA #501. Experience supporting heavy mechanical repair, rigging, welding, equipment installation, or industrial field-service operations. Experience within cement, lime, mining, industrial minerals, pulp and paper, or heavy manufacturing environments . Experience managing Avetta, ISNetworld, PEC Safety, PICS, safety councils, or customer contractor-prequalification systems. Experience with Procore Safety or comparable safety-management systems. Experience working directly with OSHA, MSHA, customers, insurance carriers, and workers' compensation representatives. Demonstrated experience developing supervisors and strengthening company-wide safety culture. Travel & Working Conditions This is not a primarily desk-based position . The Safety Manager will regularly travel to and audit active industrial projects throughout the company's operating territory. Expect approximately 65% travel , including: Frequent overnight travel. Short-notice travel following serious incidents or customer concerns. Nights, weekends, holidays, outages, and extended shifts when required. Work in extreme temperatures, dust, noise, weather, elevated environments, and active industrial operations. Extended walking and standing. Accessing stairs, ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and elevated structures. Entering restricted or confined-space areas when trained and authorized. Wearing required PPE and passing applicable respirator fit testing. Reduction in recurring hazards and preventable incidents. Strong customer and contractor-prequalification standing. Effective relationships with field employees and operational leadership. Demonstrated readiness for increased safety leadership responsibility. Career Development - Safety Director Track This position is intentionally designed as a development opportunity toward a future Safety Director role. During the first year, the Safety Manager will be expected to establish credibility with field personnel, assess and strengthen the existing safety program, standardize policies and procedures, improve field auditing and incident-management processes, establish a company-wide training matrix, and develop meaningful safety-performance indicators. During the second year, the Safety Manager will increasingly lead company-wide safety strategy, budgeting, executive reporting, organizational development, regulatory relationships, and long-term safety planning. Progression to Safety Director will depend on performance, leadership development, professional qualifications, company growth, and organizational needs.
