A.M.P. Contracting LLC is a growing commercial construction company specializing in structural steel erection and pre-engineered metal buildings. We serve North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. You will work directly with the Owner and alongside our Accountant and Project Managers. This role has regular access to and meets frequently with company ownership. Role:
We are looking for a bilingual (Spanish/English) HR & People Operations Lead to be the heart of our company. You will own all HR functions, policy development and management, employee engagement and events, safety documentation, and employee training. You will also provide light administrative support to keep our office running smoothly. This is not a corporate desk role. You must be a roll-up-your-sleeves, hands-on person who likes to be involved. You will get to know our employees, visit jobsites regularly to build relationships and check on our crews, and be the person our team relies on for HR support, safety, and communication. If you like structure but hate being buried in paperwork all day, this role is for you. Willing to train the right person.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
Reports directly to the Owner / Director of Operations Works collaboratively with the Accountant on employee-related financial matters Works alongside Project Managers on safety, training, and jobsite coordination No direct reports Regular meetings and direct access to company ownership
HR RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage all recruiting
identify staffing needs, post positions, screen applicants, conduct interviews, extend offers, and manage the entire pre-employment process Conduct new hire orientations and manage complete onboarding Handle employee relations
questions, concerns, disputes, disciplinary procedures Coordinate all benefits enrollment and administration Maintain BambooHR
employee records, attendance, PTO, timesheets Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (ND, SD, MN) Handle all WSI, unemployment, and DOL claims Manage employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, 90-day and annual reviews Coordinate all employee travel (hotels, per diem, drive time) Serve as liaison between management and employees Visit jobsites regularly to maintain employee relationships
EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT & EVENT PLANNING
Plan and execute company events throughout the year (Christmas party, summer events, holiday celebrations, employee appreciation events) Maintain and execute an employee engagement calendar including birthdays, work anniversaries, and milestones Coordinate culturally meaningful celebrations for our workforce Manage employee recognition programs Coordinate event logistics: venue booking, food, drinks, games, gifts, and decorations Coordinate with families where appropriate for company events Send timely acknowledgments for personal milestones (birthdays, births, deaths, hospitalizations) Build and maintain the culture that keeps our team loyal and connected
POLICY DEVELOPMENT & MANAGEMENT
Maintain and update the employee handbook Review, create, and revise company policies as needed Roll out new policies to employees through jobsite meetings, group sessions, and bilingual communication Collect and document policy acknowledgments from all employees Ensure policies remain compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws Communicate policy changes to foremen and support consistent enforcement Maintain audit-ready policy documentation
CONSTRUCTION SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
Coordinate and document ongoing employee safety training throughout the year, working alongside Project Managers who own field-level safety execution Track and maintain employee certifications (OSHA 10/30, fall protection, welding, forklift, etc.) Maintain OSHA compliance documentation and reporting Coordinate quarterly safety training programs Document toolbox talks and jobsite safety meetings Support seasonal safety planning with Project Managers (heat illness prevention, cold weather protocols) Track and distribute PPE Coordinate drug testing programs Verify I-9 documentation for all employees Manage workers' compensation claims and documentation Support Project Managers on jobsite safety compliance across active projects Maintain audit-ready safety and compliance files
ADDITIONAL OFFICE SUPPORT
Order office supplies as needed Answer phones and greet walk-ins Set up conference room for meetings Maintain general office organization
REQUIREMENTS
Required:
Bilingual
English and Spanish (Fluent, not conversational) AAS or Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, OR minimum 3 years in a full-scope HR role Ability to work independently and follow established company processes consistently Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent time management and multitasking abilities Ability to prioritize competing demands Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for jobsite visits and multi-state travel Comfortable with technology (BambooHR, Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Teams) Willingness to visit active construction jobsites regularly Roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic Ability to work collaboratively
