This position is highly field-focused and requires someone who is comfortable working directly with crews, regularly visiting active job sites, identifying hazards, enforcing company safety policies, and ensuring compliance with Cal/OSHA requirements and California Title 8 regulations . The right candidate will understand that an effective safety program requires more than communicating policies. This individual must be willing and able to enforce expectations, hold employees accountable, document deficiencies, initiate corrective actions, and follow through until issues are resolved . Key Responsibilities Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and observations. Identify unsafe work practices, hazardous conditions, and potential Cal/OSHA violations. Ensure MEC employees and crews are following company safety policies, procedures, and required PPE standards. Enforce applicable Cal/OSHA and Title 8 regulations , particularly those related to construction and roofing operations. Address unsafe conditions immediately and work with field leadership to implement corrective action. Follow up on safety violations to confirm corrective actions have been completed. Work directly with field crews, Project Managers, supervisors, and company leadership to improve safety performance. Conduct and assist with employee safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training. Provide safety training in both English and Spanish when needed. Assist with new-hire safety orientation and ongoing employee education. Maintain organized and accurate documentation of inspections, training, incidents, corrective actions, and safety observations. Assist with accident, injury, and near-miss investigations and documentation. Monitor compliance with fall protection, ladder safety, PPE, heat illness prevention, housekeeping, equipment safety, and other construction-related safety requirements. Maintain consistent communication with management regarding safety concerns, trends, repeat violations, and areas requiring additional training. Work closely with company leadership on site inspections, employee training, documentation, corrective actions, and follow-up. Promote a culture where employees understand that safety is a shared responsibility and an essential part of every job. Qualifications Bilingual in English and Spanish required. Strong working knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations and California Title 8 safety requirements . Construction safety experience strongly preferred; roofing or exterior construction experience is a plus. Comfortable working on active construction and roofing jobsites. Strong understanding of fall protection and construction-related safety practices. Ability to confidently address unsafe behavior and hold employees accountable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both field employees and management. Highly organized with strong documentation and follow-through skills. Proactive, responsive, dependable, and comfortable working independently. Ability to recognize hazards and make sound decisions regarding corrective action. Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly between MEC jobsites. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who is visible in the field, approachable with employees, but firm when it comes to safety expectations . They understand how to build relationships with crews while still maintaining accountability. This person should not be afraid to stop an unsafe activity, have difficult conversations, document violations, or require corrective action when necessary. At the same time, they should be able to educate employees on the reason behind safety requirements and help crews develop safer working habits. Our Expectation At MEC Builds, safety is a shared responsibility. Protecting our employees requires consistent communication, training, accountability, and enforcement. The Safety & Compliance Coordinator will play an important role in ensuring that MEC company policies and Cal/OSHA requirements are being followed every day—not simply discussed . Our goal is to create a strong safety culture where every employee understands that working safely is a condition of employment and an essential part of protecting themselves, their coworkers, our customers, and the company.
