Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will operate various types of commercial vehicles to transport passengers safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations. Your primary focus will be on providing exceptional customer service while maintaining the highest standards of safety, discipline, and professionalism. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to community mobility, assist passengers—including children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—and uphold transportation safety standards. Responsibilities Safely operate buses, transit vehicles, or specialized transportation vans in accordance with state and local laws, including traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including wheelchair assistance and support for individuals with mobility challenges or special needs. Follow all emergency response procedures for transportation, including emergency stop procedures and first aid protocols such as CPR. Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective communication skills to provide timely updates and respond to passenger needs. Ensure passenger safety by adhering to behavior management policies, child care guidelines (if applicable), and student discipline protocols when transporting minors. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to verify operational safety, including checking vehicle codes, lights, brakes, tires, and emergency equipment. Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected road conditions by adjusting routes safely while ensuring on-time arrivals. Support passenger comfort and safety by following school policy knowledge or senior care procedures as needed during transit. Complete accurate documentation such as logs, incident reports, and shift reports while maintaining all transportation records diligently. Qualifications Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for bus or paratransit operation. Proven experience in bus driving or transit bus operation preferred; experience working with children or seniors is a plus. Knowledge of traffic laws, emergency response procedures for transportation, child care policies, and behavior management techniques. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a nice-to-have asset for serving diverse communities. Demonstrated defensive driving skills and a commitment to transportation safety regulations at the state and local levels. First aid certification including CPR is highly desirable; familiarity with emergency stop procedures essential. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle passenger interactions professionally and courteously. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments while maintaining focus on passenger safety.
