Hire Virtue is recruiting on behalf of our mining client for an experienced Senior Safety Specialist to provide strategic leadership in health and safety while partnering with operations to build a world-class safety culture. This position is ideal for an accomplished safety professional who enjoys coaching leaders, influencing organizational culture, improving regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement throughout a complex industrial operation. Position Summary The Senior Safety Specialist serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert responsible for supporting safety strategy, regulatory compliance, risk management, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives across mining operations. Key Responsibilities Serve as the senior safety resource supporting operations and leadership. Lead field safety observations, compliance audits, and workplace risk assessments. Develop and implement proactive safety improvement initiatives. Lead or facilitate complex incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Partner with leadership to develop corrective actions and long-term risk reduction strategies. Support OSHA and MSHA regulatory inspections while serving as a technical resource. Develop and revise safety procedures, standards, and safe work practices. Mentor supervisors and employees while strengthening safety leadership throughout the organization. Analyze safety performance metrics and recommend continuous improvement opportunities. Support Management of Change (MOC) reviews and operational risk assessments. Deliver safety training and regulatory compliance education. Promote employee engagement while reinforcing a culture of accountability and operational excellence. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Minimum 5 years of progressive safety experience within mining, heavy industrial manufacturing, energy, construction, or similar industrial operations. Demonstrated expertise with OSHA and MSHA regulations. Strong experience leading incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis. Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills. Ability to influence without direct authority. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Advanced Microsoft Office skills. Preferred Qualifications Certified Safety Professional (CSP) strongly preferred. Certified Safety & Risk Professional (CSRP) or similar credential considered. Mining industry experience highly preferred. Experience leading safety management systems and regulatory compliance programs. Formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA) facilitation training.
