Job Description

Job Summary The purpose of the instructor position within the Health, Safety, and Training Group (HST) is to ensure adherence to safety standards and rules and identify current and future training needs for both MEI employees and external clients. Duties Lead training in compliance with State and Federal regulations and MEI Company and Client policies. Conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment. Provide educational or safety certification to employees. Manage the training schedule to insure the proper instructors are available and assigned to each class. Provide new employees with health and safety orientations and develop materials for these presentations when needed as back up to the safety department. Expertise in the industrial and construction areas. Knowledgeable in OSHA, DOT, and RCRA requirements/regulations. Provide
RCRA/DOT
training for all employees for both initial and refreshers as needed Ensure complete and accurate documentation of all training activities and accurate completion of all training related employee records. Desired areas of instructional expertise, include but are not limited to: confined space entry and rescue; 10/30 hour OSHA General Industry and Construction; ambient air monitoring;
HAZWOPER
; electrical safety for the power industry; asbestos, trenching and shoring; hazardous waste management, scaffolding; cranes safety; mobile equipment (e.g. forklifts, skid steer, backhoe, etc.); spill response, land and water. Provide feedback to management on new or required training that would benefit MEI Generate new training business through both new and existing customers Responsible for meeting and continue to meet all DOT/Client required mandated physical, and drug and alcohol testing requirements. Reports for all scheduled work shifts before scheduled starting time, and works until scheduled stopping time, as required. Maintains MEI's core values. Attend MEI's Saturday safety meetings once every other month. Act as Haz-Mat Coordinator once per week and every 5th weekend when on call. Wear and properly use a variety of levels A-D of personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, skin, face, hand and foot protection as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills Ability to design, lead, development, and implement medium to complex programs and procedures. Proficient in communicating effectively both verbally and written. Ability to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical audiences. Excellent phone communication and interpersonal skills. Customer Service Oriented. Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills along with the ability to work independently. Demonstrated ability to effectively present to all levels of the organization. Excellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills; strong attention to detail skills. Ability to identify problems and provide good solutions for the same. Proficient computer skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Dynamics SL and Dynamics CRM are a plus. Able to meet changing deadlines and special requests. Credibility to lead change and passion for continuous improvement. High standard of personal and professional integrity. Capacity to understand and report on factors that influence the daily productivity and effectiveness of MEI's delivery and service operations.
Required Education, Training and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree or applicable work experience in Safety Science or related field. 7 Years of conducting instructor led training preferred. Safety related certification (CSP/CIH) with working familiarity of regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, Homeland Security, etc.) with related work experience preferred. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations and corporate safety programs and policies Training content/testing development experience preferred. Conduct regular audits of employee training files and vehicle maintenance files and conduct regular facility safety audits ensuring compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations and related corporate policies. Will be required to complete 40 Hour OSHA Training. Valid Driver's License; Class A or B CDL with Tank and HAZMAT endorsements a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Position involves Occasional heights and confined spaces, occasional strenuous physical exertion. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Requires frequent walking, standing, climbing, sitting, talking, and listening. Requires frequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing/pulling, grasping, and carrying. Required to have clarity of vision. Subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. Occasional ability to properly wear and use respirator equipment and other forms of protective equipment (PPE), including occasional full encapsulation PPE suits which can elevate body temperature substantially during strenuous exertion. This position is essential for fostering a safe workplace culture while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
