Part-Time Shelter Aide

Job Description

Summary/Objective:
La Posada Providencia is an emergency shelter for immigrants in crisis who are seeking legal refuge in the United States of America. The Shelter Aide is responsible for the cleanliness, health, and sanitation of La Posada Providencia. The Shelter Aide will also assist with other operations within the shelter building, including stocking of essential supplies and preparing and serving meals to shelter residents.
Essential Functions:
1. Cleans shelter facilities to maintain health and sanitation standards. This includes assisting with laundry, and emptying recycling bins and trashcans. 2. Prepares meals, supervises meal service, and cleans up after meals. 3. Cleans and prepares clients bedrooms. 4. Identifies minor maintenance issues and communicates them to the Shelter Leader. 5. Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies and client provisions. 6. Follow La Posada Providencia program policies and procedures. 7. Organize and Lead Facility/Program tours as needed for guests and volunteers. 8. Keeps log of client and volunteer tasks, performed in Kitchen in Kitchen, Laundry and storage areas. 9. Performs other duties as requested.
Requirements:

  • Work effectively with persons who have diverse styles, abilities, motivations, and backgrounds;
  • Demonstrate basic computer skills ;
  • Adapt to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned;
  • Arrive to work promptly and regularly;
  • Concentrate and perform accurately;
  • Clean up after other people;
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, mops, sweepers, and brooms;
  • Follow proper procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and dispensers;
  • Understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions;
  • Perform repetitive manual tasks that require agility and manual dexterity; and
  • Sort, stack, and arrange items in an organized manner.
Post offer, pre-employment screening requires successful completion of criminal background check, and motor vehicle record report.
Education and Experience:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 21 years of age or older; and
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a Food Handler Certification (basic course) within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid Driver's License Required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience cleaning in either a residential or commercial setting
