HR EHS Specialist

Job Description

Function Delivers excellent human resources administration, payroll processing, and training and development services for manufacturing plant employees. Key metric is retention of a trained, qualified, and productive workforce.
Duties and Responsibilities Safety:
Delivers and ensures compliance with all regulatory environmental, health, and safety requirements, as well as company and plantwide EHS programs, including training, auditing, investigations, improvements in process and tools; all to ensure the health and safety of employees.
Customer Service:
Answers employees' inquiries about policies and payroll-related issues. Tracks and assists plant staff by providing relevant employee information (e.g. leaves of absence, vacation balances, work schedules, attendance records, etc.). Schedules plant communication and meet and greet meetings and handles interoffice communications. Administers HR related services (i.e. uniforms, birthdays, anniversaries, safety celebrations, employee relation activities, etc.)
Payroll and Benefits:
Processes payroll for plant hourly employees bi-weekly. Organizes, maintains, and keeps employee records accurate and up to date for HR and Payroll purposes. Administers payroll related services (i.e. safety shoe and glasses and healthy lifestyle incentives, etc.) Assists Benefits Manager with answering or assisting with benefit-related questions.
Training and Development:
Updates and maintains training tracker for new hires, job changes, refresher training, etc. Ensures employees are receiving the training they need to be successful in their jobs. Provides coaching to employees who convey concerns maintaining an equal balance between what is good for the employee and good for the company.
Recruitment:
Posts jobs, pre-screens candidates, schedules and conducts interviews, background checks, pre-employment activities, extends offers, and conducts new hire onboarding. Updates and maintains manning file.
Onboarding and Offboarding:
Prepares documents for new hire paperwork, orientation, and training. Prepares documents and processes employees through exit process.
Labor Relations:
Answers management and employee questions using the labor contract and ensure consistency with contract. Participates in labor management meetings regarding union concerns.
Reporting and Document Retention:
Updates internal databases for various reports and activities. Develops and maintains paper and/or electronic filing system.
Projects:
Participates and organizes HR projects and events (e.g. onsite health and flu shot clinics, job fairs, employee recognition, plant policy and procedure updates, etc.) Performs other related duties as required. Position Specifications Associate or working towards bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Organizational Development or Environmental or Safety Science or relevant field At least 3 years of HR and/or Payroll experience; or Training and Development or EHS experience High level of confidentiality and ability to handle conflict in professional manner Strong administration and organizational skills with ability to prioritize important projects Excellent interpersonal, customer-facing and communication skills (phone, email, in-person) Flexibility and willingness to learn Experience with HR software, ADP and Workforce Manager preferred Computer literacy (MS Office applications, in particular)

While performing duties of job, incumbent frequently required to stand; walk; sit; climb stairs; reach above and below chest level; use hands to finger; handle or feel objects; tools or controls; reach with arms; talk and hear. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may be exposed to chemical, non-toxic fumes or dust.
Work Environment:
Incumbent will occasionally be exposed to Hot Temperatures. The environment is well lit; the noise level is often minimal, but incumbent may be exposed to higher than 85 decibels on occasion.
