Food Safety & Regulatory Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Food Safety & Regulatory Specialist to join our dynamic team. Responsible for the successful development, implementation and maintenance of all programs surrounding the Food Safety and Quality Management systems. This includes Silgan driven programs and programs set forth by regulatory bodies. Oversee related operations and activities of workers performing jobs within these programs. Plan work schedules, host meetings, assign tasks, and train new employees with regard to Food Safety and Medical requirements. Enforce Quality and Food Safety policy. Oversee and coordinate various internal audits, inspection activities, and verification activities. Works under the direction of the Quality Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
includes, but not limited to, the following:
EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT
  • Orient and train new employees on Food Safety and Quality Management systems with emphasis in their area of responsibility.
  • Plan and implement training for all employees to Food Safety and Quality systems including refresher training, as needed.
  • Stays current with required certifications and regulatory requirements through training and class work as needed.
FOOD SAFETY, FOOD DEFENSE, & FOOD FRAUD
  • Food Safety Team leader responsible for assisting the Food Safety Team in performing risk assessments and hazard analysis.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining the prerequisite programs for
FSSC 22000
certification.
  • Keep informed of new revisions to certification requirements. Incorporate new revisions into the Food Safety Management System.
  • Certified as Lead Auditor, Food Defense Coordinator and Food Safety Coordinator.
  • Oversee the maintenance of document control, master lists, quality manual and related databases.
  • Administer the Environmental Monitoring Program. Responsible for the communication and resolution of any non-conformances.
  • Administer the Bacteriological Testing Program for Interstate Milk Shippers. Responsible for the communication and resolution of any non-conformances.
  • Administer the Allergen Testing Program. Responsible for the communication and resolution of any non-conformances.
  • Administer the Master Cleaning Program. Monitor adherence to the schedule. Review results of cleaning activities to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain the Critical Supplier list and audit schedule for critical and sensitive suppliers. Ensure that suppliers are compliant to regulatory requirements. Request annual documentation submissions.
  • Responsible for the completion of customer requested surveys.
  • Schedule and maintain monthly Food Safety inspections.
  • Schedule and maintain monthly internal ISO audits.
  • Schedule and maintain monthly Security Audits and serve as Food Defense & Food Fraud team leader.
  • Ensures completion of mock recalls and label reconciliation as required by Food Safety Management System.
  • Oversees the completion of corrective actions for internal audit findings, 3rd party audit findings, and other food safety and regulatory non-conformances.
  • Manage Pest Control Program and retain records. Responsible for reporting trend analysis to Quality Manager.
  • Hosts all food safety and quality management system related audits from external 3rd parties including certification bodies and customers.

EXPERIENCE
The required competencies for this role include an Associate's degree in a related field with 3 or more years of hands on quality experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of food safety, medical, and regulatory requirements preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, teach and interpret technical procedures. This individual must be able to write reports and business correspondence including ISO procedures. Ability to interpret ISO standards and verify written materials and practices comply with current ISO standards. Must possess the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as customers and suppliers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with basic statistical mathematical concepts. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages. Ability to create and interpret graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in any situation. Have the ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists. Strong computer skills in a Windows based environment using spreadsheets, databases and word processing. Strong organizational skills and the ability to focus on details is essential to this position. Strong attention to detail with a team oriented philosophy is needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required the use of hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color tolerances, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes and airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The noise level on the manufacturing floor is loud. The following personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be worn at all times when performing in this role while on the manufacturing floor: safety glasses and hearing protection. Food Safety protective equipment is required at all times while on the manufacturing floor: including hair nets and, if applicable, beard nets or gloves.

From $90,000.00 per year
