Security Guard Job Description Purpose:
Under the supervision of the school administration, the security guard performs duties in the protection of persons and property, and preservation of order in the school in accordance with school district rules and policies. The main responsibilities of this position include enforcing all school policies, parking enforcement, interaction with students and providing assistance to students and staff when needed. This employee will be required to exercise initiative and discretion when faced with emergency conditions. This work involves an element of personal danger.

Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or G.E.D., or equivalent. 2. One year of security or law enforcement experience preferred. 3. Ability and interest in acquiring additional information and skill in regard to job responsibilities. 4. Valid Kansas driver's license.
Essential Functions:
1. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities a. Must acquire full knowledge of applicable Kansas law and local ordinances. b. Enforce school policy. c. Provide necessary and required information to school, law, and court officials. d. Follow the direction of the school administration. e. Assist the School Resource Officer. f. Patrol parking lot and school grounds. g. Learn and operate video surveillance system. h. Ability to communicate effectively and apply conflict resolution techniques. i. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community. j. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. k. Appropriately operate all equipment as required. l. Support the value of an education. m. Support the philosophy and mission of Derby Public Schools. n. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations. 2.
Physical Requirements/Environment Conditions:
a. Requires the ability to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods. b. Between 5 to 10% of the time requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, or push objects of 150 pounds or more. c. Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend and reach. d. Must be able to work in noisy and crowed environment. e. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
General Responsibilities:
1. Enforce parking regulations. 2. Be present during all passing and lunch periods. 3. Detain combative or disorderly students. 4. Complete paper work as needed. 5. Ensure against the presence of unauthorized people on campus. 6. Assist with supervision of students when and where instructed by administration. 7. Escort students throughout building and campus. 8. Assist with the creation and distribution of student ID cards. 9. Adhere to all district health and safety policies. 10. Other duties as assigned by the Safety/Security Officer, Building Principal, or Superintendent which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.
