Job Description

Crisis Line Advocate Job Summary Our mission at Advocates for Family Peace is "To improve lives by ending domestic violence." We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Crisis Line Advocate to provide after-hours support and advocacy to individuals impacted by domestic violence in Itasca County and Northern St. Louis County, MN . Crisis Line Advocates provide support, information, referrals, and assistance to individuals experiencing domestic violence. Advocacy is primarily provided by phone, with occasional in-person response as needed. This position requires the ability to work independently, remain calm during crisis situations, maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries, and provide respectful, nonjudgmental, client-centered support. Crisis Line Schedule Crisis Line Advocates provide scheduled after-hours crisis line coverage.
Weekday shift:
Monday through Friday, with crisis line coverage from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. the following morning . Crisis line coverage is not required during regular agency business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Weekend shift:
Friday at 3:30 p.m. through Monday at 8:30 a.m., providing 24-hour coverage throughout the weekend.
Holidays:
24-hour crisis line coverage. While providing crisis line coverage, advocates must remain within Itasca County or Northern St. Louis County, MN and be available throughout their scheduled coverage hours. Advocates log into the agency crisis line during their scheduled coverage hours and are expected to keep their phone with them and answer all crisis line calls received during that time. Duties and Responsibilities Provide one-on-one crisis line advocacy primarily by phone and occasionally in person. Listen to clients, identify immediate needs, and provide appropriate support, information, and referrals. Connect clients with community resources and services, including: Social services Medical services Court and legal resources Housing, clothing, and food resources Children's services Income and financial assistance programs Other services based on individual needs Complete required client documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information and interactions and follow agency requirements for protecting client privacy. Maintain confidentiality regarding internal agency information, operations, and other non-public matters. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients. Build and maintain positive working relationships with law enforcement and other community partners. Communicate respectfully and professionally with clients, co-workers, supervisors, community partners, and members of the public. Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment. Follow agency procedures related to crisis response, safety, confidentiality, and communication. Additional Responsibilities Attend required training, networking meetings, staff meetings, and board/staff workshops as requested. Adhere to agency policies and procedures. Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director. Qualifications Associate degree in human services or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience, preferred.
Minimum education requirement:
High school diploma or G.E.D. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to remain calm, professional, nonjudgmental, and client-centered when working with individuals experiencing crisis. Ability to work independently, use sound judgment, and follow established procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with community partners. Ability to identify client needs and coordinate appropriate services and referrals. Understanding of domestic violence and violence-prevention philosophies, or willingness to learn. Valid Minnesota driver's license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment and maintain an acceptable driving record. Valid automobile insurance or ability to meet agency requirements regarding transportation. Compensation Crisis Line Advocates are paid a flat-rate stipend based on the days they provide crisis line coverage: Weekday coverage: $65 for each 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.
period of coverage Weekend coverage:
$85 for each 24-hour day of coverage Holiday coverage: Double the regular applicable rate Phone stipend: $50 per month for advocates who provide crisis line coverage during that month Application Question(s): Must pass a background check and drug screening.
