Overview Schultz Engineered Products is seeking an experienced, hands-on Automotive Technician skilled in vehicle restoration to take part in the complete restoration of a one-of-a-kind vintage race car with a rich history. This is a part-time, temporary/project-based position for someone with strong mechanical skills and experience working on classic automobiles, vintage race cars, hot rods or other restoration projects. Mechanical knowledge and ability are critical. As a complete restoration project, it may also involve fabrication, welding, body and sheet-metal work. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded, hands-on technician with years of experience who is comfortable diagnosing problems, rebuilding and repairing components, and using their knowledge and ingenuity to solve the unique challenges of a vintage vehicle restoration. Responsibilities Disassemble the vehicle and carefully organize and catalog all components Thoroughly clean and prepare components for restoration, including soda blasting, sandblasting or other appropriate methods as needed Inspect and assess mechanical systems and components, identifying wear, damage, missing parts and necessary repairs Diagnose mechanical issues and determine appropriate repair, rebuilding or replacement solutions Repair and rebuild steering, suspension, braking, cooling and other mechanical systems as needed Perform fabrication, welding and component modification required as part of the restoration Perform or assist with body, sheet-metal and related restoration work Identify and source appropriate replacement parts, components and materials Reassemble restored mechanical systems, components and vehicle assemblies Maintain an organized and safe work environment throughout the project Work with the Schultz team to ensure the restoration preserves the character and history of the vehicle Qualifications Strong hands-on automotive mechanical A MUST Experience with automotive restoration, classic cars, vintage vehicles, race cars or hot rods a strongly preferred Demonstrated ability to diagnose, repair and rebuild mechanical systems Strong understanding of older automotive systems and components Experience with fabrication, welding, body and/or sheet-metal work Ability to troubleshoot and develop practical solutions when replacement parts or original specifications are not readily available Comfortable using common automotive, fabrication and shop tools Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship Ability to work independently and see individual projects through to completion Experience specifically with vintage or historic race cars is a plus. Above all, we are looking for an experienced automotive technician willing to take a hands-on role throughout the restoration, with strong mechanical and restoration skills, a keen eye for detail, pride in their work, and a genuine commitment to doing the job right from start to finish. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods of time Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds or more Ability to bend, kneel, crouch and work in and around a vehicle as required Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools and other automotive shop equipment
