- Kearny, NJ Position Overview Double Down Lighting is looking for a reliable, motivated, self-managing, and mechanically skilled Fleet & Facility Maintenance Technician to take ownership of the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of our company fleet, equipment, and facility.
The primary focus of this position is maintaining and repairing our fleet of cargo vans and box trucks , including preventative maintenance, diagnostics, minor-to-intermediate repairs, liftgates, electrical systems, and general fleet upkeep. When fleet maintenance is lighter, this position will also assist with facility maintenance, shop organization, equipment repairs, and general handyman projects. This is not a cleaning or janitorial position. We have a separate cleaning service. This is a newly created position at Double Down Lighting, so we are looking for someone who wants to help build and develop the role from the ground up. The right person will be able to work independently, establish preventative maintenance procedures, recommend tools and equipment, organize the maintenance area, and help us create a more efficient in-house fleet and facility maintenance operation. We are looking for someone who doesn't need to be constantly told what to do. The ideal candidate will identify problems, prioritize work, recommend solutions, and take ownership of getting things completed. Primary ResponsibilitiesFleet Maintenance & Repair Maintain and help manage our fleet of cargo vans and box trucks, including: Perform oil and filter changes and scheduled preventative maintenance Perform fuel filter replacements and other routine services Inspect and perform basic-to-intermediate brake repairs Test and replace batteries Diagnose starting and charging-system problems Diagnose warning lights and common vehicle issues Troubleshoot basic-to-intermediate electrical problems Replace bulbs, fuses, wiring, and other electrical components Troubleshoot and repair liftgate hydraulic and electrical systems Perform minor-to-intermediate mechanical repairs Inspect vehicles for damage, excessive wear, leaks, and safety concerns Identify mechanical problems before they become larger and more expensive repairs Coordinate outside repairs when work needs to be performed by a dealership or specialty repair facility Maintain vehicle interiors, mechanical areas, and related equipment in good condition Help ensure company vehicles remain safe, reliable, and road-ready Fleet Management & Recordkeeping Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules Track oil changes and scheduled service intervals Maintain organized vehicle maintenance and repair histories Track vehicle registrations and inspection requirements Document repairs and recurring mechanical issues Help track repair costs and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary maintenance expenses Maintain an appropriate inventory of commonly used parts, fluids, filters, and maintenance supplies Help determine which repairs should be completed in-house versus outsourced Coordinate with outside repair facilities and vendors when necessary Facility & Shop Maintenance When fleet maintenance allows, assist with general facility and shop projects, including: Basic building maintenance and repairs Minor plumbing repairs, leaks, and fixture replacements Basic electrical repairs such as switches, outlets, and light fixtures General handyman projects Mounting shelves, equipment, signs, and fixtures Light drywall, spackle, and painting Warehouse and shop repairs Organizing tools, parts, maintenance supplies, and work areas Maintaining an organized and functional maintenance/workshop area Identifying facility problems and recommending repairs before they become larger issues Rental Equipment Maintenance Assist with basic inspection, maintenance, and repair of equipment used in our production rental operation, including: Lighting equipment Grip equipment Carts and dollies Production equipment Expendable and support equipment Wheels, casters, hardware, cables, connectors, and other commonly used components Specialized training can be provided for industry-specific equipment. Opportunity to Build the Position Because this is a newly created role, the person we hire will have an opportunity to help shape how our maintenance operation is organized. We want someone with practical experience who can provide input on: Shop layout and organization Tools and equipment we should purchase Parts and supplies we should keep in stock Preventative maintenance procedures Fleet inspection procedures Maintenance tracking systems Ways to reduce outside repair costs and vehicle downtime We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and wants to help build an efficient maintenance operation rather than simply complete a list of assigned tasks. Required Qualifications Hands-on automotive or commercial vehicle maintenance experience Strong mechanical aptitude Experience working on vans, trucks, commercial vehicles, or fleet vehicles Ability to independently diagnose and complete basic-to-intermediate repairs Understanding of preventative vehicle maintenance Familiarity with automotive electrical systems and diagnostics Ability to safely operate hand and power tools Basic facility maintenance/handyman abilities Strong organizational skills Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records Valid driver's license Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, bending, standing, and working around vehicles Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Motivated and able to identify work that needs to be completed without waiting for constant direction Preferred Experience Experience in any of the following is a plus: Commercial fleet maintenance Box trucks Cargo vans Ford Transit or similar commercial vans Diesel engines Gas engines Liftgates Hydraulic systems Automotive electrical diagnostics Commercial truck repair Mobile mechanic work Warehouse or industrial facility maintenance Equipment repair Welding or light fabrication Ability to operate up to a 26-foot box truck is also preferred.
