Head Bicycle Mechanic Ottawa Bike and Trail - Ottawa, Kansas Ottawa Bike and Trail is looking for an experienced Head Bicycle Mechanic to join our team. We're an independent, family-owned bike shop specializing in everything from everyday bikes and e-bikes to custom steel bikes, gravel bikes, and adventure builds. This is a hands-on position for an experienced mechanic who is comfortable working on a wide variety of bicycles and enjoys solving problems, working with customers, and being part of a busy bike shop. Responsibilities As our Head Bicycle Mechanic, you'll be responsible for helping keep our service department running smoothly while providing high-quality repair work and excellent customer service.

Responsibilities include:

Diagnosing, servicing, and repairing bicycles and e-bikes Performing tune-ups, maintenance, component installation, and more complex repairs Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and e-bike issues Assembling and preparing new bicycles and e-bikes for sale Inspecting completed repairs and new-bike assemblies for safety and quality Communicating with customers about repairs, recommendations, and service needs Helping customers select appropriate replacement parts and upgrades Providing bicycle sales support when needed Maintaining an organized, efficient, and professional service area Helping the rest of the team during busy periods and contributing to the overall operation of the shop Experience & Qualifications Previous professional bike shop experience is required. We're looking for someone who already has a strong foundation in bicycle repair and can confidently work in a professional service environment.

The ideal candidate will have:

Professional bicycle mechanic/shop experience Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills Experience servicing modern bicycles and components E-bike repair experience or a willingness to expand your e-bike knowledge Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work Good communication and customer service skills Ability to explain repairs and technical issues in a way customers can understand Ability to work independently while also being part of a small team A positive attitude and willingness to learn What You'll Work On One of the things that makes Ottawa Bike and Trail unique is the variety of bikes that come through our doors. We work with leading bicycle brands including Surly, Salsa, Giant, Rivendell, and Priority , along with e-bike brands including Aventon, AIMA, and Velotric . On any given day, you might be assembling a new e-bike, troubleshooting a drivetrain, servicing a commuter, working on a custom steel bike, or helping get someone's gravel or bikepacking rig ready for its next adventure.
