Ivey Dirt & Aggregates

Fleet & Plant Maintenance Technician

Job Description

Overview We are a growing dirt aggregate producer building for the long term. As our company expands into multiple pits and wash plants, we are looking for someone who wants to help build a first-class maintenance program—not just perform routine service work. We're not looking for another mechanic. We're looking for the person who wants to build and lead the maintenance department for a growing aggregate company. If you enjoy improving equipment, solving problems, and taking ownership of an operation—not just punching a clock—we want to talk to you. About the Position This is far more than a preventive maintenance position. Preventive maintenance is an important part of the job, but keeping production running is the priority. Every week is different. Some days you'll perform scheduled services. Other days you'll troubleshoot conveyors, replace bearings, repair pumps, change screen media, work on our wash plant and log washer, install improvements, fabricate simple repairs, or help commission used equipment. If you enjoy solving mechanical problems and improving equipment, this is the type of job you'll enjoy. Responsibilities Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on trucks, trailers, construction equipment, farm machinery, and industrial systems to ensure optimal operation. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using schematics and automotive diagnostics tools. Perform repairs including engine overhauls, transmission servicing, brake system repairs, suspension work, shocks & struts replacement, and HVAC system maintenance. Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, and tractor-trailers safely and efficiently during maintenance procedures. Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and soldering techniques to repair or fabricate parts as needed. Maintain detailed service records and documentation for all repairs performed; follow safety protocols diligently. Assist with tire service, wheel alignments, air brake systems checks, and hydraulic system repairs to ensure vehicle safety standards are met. Skills Proven experience working with heavy equipment operation including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and farm machinery. Strong mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems such as transmissions, suspensions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Familiarity with schematics reading for troubleshooting complex machinery issues. Hands-on experience with automotive repair including diesel mechanics and vehicle electrical system repair. Ability to perform welding and fabrication tasks using power tools safely. Excellent problem-solving skills combined with customer service orientation to support internal teams or clients effectively. Physical ability to lift heavy components safely during equipment maintenance or repairs; comfortable working in various environments. This role offers an exciting opportunity to apply your technical skills in a vibrant setting where safety and quality are paramount. We value proactive team members who are eager to maintain our fleet's reliability while advancing their expertise in heavy equipment mechanics!
