Job Description

Maintenance Technician — Residential & Retail Portfolio AGEM Management LLC Boston, MA (Back Bay) + North Shore (Manchester-by-the-Sea) Full-time
  • $34.00
  • $42.00 per hour
  • Company truck and tools provided About
AGEM AGEM
Management LLC is an owner-operator of historic residential and high-street retail property in Boston's Back Bay and on Massachusetts' North Shore. We own our buildings, we hold them long term, and we maintain them ourselves. That means the work you do here is not a line item on someone else's budget — it's how our assets hold their value. We run a lean team. You will have real ownership over your buildings and direct access to decision-makers. No layers, no dispatch queue, no waiting three weeks for approval on a $400 part. The Role We're hiring an experienced Maintenance Technician to cover a portfolio of brownstone residential and street-level retail properties. You'll be the primary hands-on presence across your buildings — handling day-to-day repairs, preventive maintenance, tenant work orders, turnovers, and vendor coordination. This is a hands-on generalist role in older buildings. If you like knowing a property well enough to hear when something's off, you'll do well here. If you want to do the same three tasks on a new-construction podium building, this isn't the job. What You'll Do
  • Respond to and close out tenant work orders across residential units and retail spaces
  • Diagnose and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building issues within licensure limits
  • Perform unit turnovers: paint, patch, punch list, fixture replacement, appliance install
  • Execute a preventive maintenance calendar — boilers, roof drains, sump pumps, fire/life-safety devices, seasonal shutdowns and startups
  • Handle snow and ice management, exterior upkeep, and common-area condition
  • Support retail tenants on landlord-side building systems and coordinate around their operating hours
  • Source parts and materials, and manage small vendor scopes when a licensed trade is required
  • Document work performed, materials used, and building conditions
  • Flag emerging capital issues early — we would much rather hear about it at $2,000 than at $40,000 Schedule & On-Call
  • Monday-Friday, standard business hours
  • Saturday mornings required (approximately 4 hours)
  • On-call rotation for after-hours emergencies, paid as a weekly stipend
  • Overtime eligible ## What We're Looking For Required
  • 5+ years of hands-on property maintenance, facilities, or building trades experience
  • Working competence across multiple trades — plumbing, basic electrical, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, paint
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Comfortable working in older and historic building stock
  • Able to lift 50 lbs, work on ladders, and access mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, and roofs
  • Reliable, responsive, and able to work unsupervised across multiple sites
  • Professional with residential tenants and retail operators — you're the face of ownership Preferred
  • Massachusetts trade license (electrical, plumbing, or refrigeration/HVAC)
  • Multi-site portfolio experience
  • Boiler, steam, or hydronic heating experience
  • OSHA 10 or 30
  • Familiarity with work-order software
  • Spanish or Portuguese a plus ## Compensation & Benefits
  • $34.00
  • $42.00 per hour. The top of the range is reserved for candidates holding a current Massachusetts trade license — electrical, plumbing, or refrigeration/HVAC.
  • Weekly on-call stipend in addition to base
  • Company truck for all job-site travel, fuel covered (vehicle is kept on site, not take-home)
  • All tools and equipment provided
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Employer support for license renewal and continuing education
  • Boots and cold-weather gear allowance How to Apply Apply through Indeed with a resume or a short summary of your work history.
Tell us the buildings or portfolios you've maintained and what systems you're strongest on. Licensed candidates should note license type and number.
