Position Summary We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Machine Mechanic / Maintenance Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and adjust the small machinery used in our leather manufacturing operation. This position is responsible for keeping production equipment operating safely and efficiently through preventive maintenance, regular inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and machine adjustments . The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, enjoys solving problems, and is comfortable working with a variety of machines and mechanical components. Experience working with leather manufacturing equipment is helpful but not required . We are open to candidates with a strong mechanical background who are willing and able to learn our specific equipment. Equipment May Include Industrial leather stitching and sewing machines Leather skiving machines Cutting and trimming equipment Grinding and buffing equipment Small production machinery Motors, belts, pulleys, bearings, gears, and other mechanical components Pneumatic and other shop equipment Additional specialized leather-working machinery Key Responsibilities Machine Maintenance Perform scheduled monthly preventive maintenance on production machinery. Inspect machines for wear, damage, loose components, and other potential problems. Clean, lubricate, adjust, and maintain machinery according to manufacturer recommendations and shop procedures. Replace worn or damaged parts before they cause equipment failure. Maintain maintenance records and report equipment concerns to management. Troubleshooting & Repairs Diagnose mechanical and operational problems with production equipment. Repair or replace belts, bearings, needles, blades, gears, motors, and other components as needed. Troubleshoot stitching machines, skivers, and other leather-working equipment. Make adjustments and repairs to keep machines operating properly and producing consistent results. Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimize production downtime. Machine Setup & Adjustments Make mechanical adjustments to ensure proper machine operation. Work with production employees to identify equipment problems affecting quality or productivity. Help improve machine reliability and identify recurring maintenance issues. Safety & Organization Follow all shop safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines. Ensure machine guards and safety features are properly installed and functioning. Maintain an organized and clean maintenance area. Properly use and care for hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment. Communicate equipment issues and needed repairs clearly to management. Qualifications Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills. Ability to troubleshoot and repair machinery. Ability to use common hand and power tools. Ability to read and understand basic mechanical instructions and diagrams. Good attention to detail. Ability to work independently and prioritize maintenance needs. Ability to work safely around moving machinery. Previous experience as a mechanic, maintenance technician, machine repair technician, machinist, or similar position is preferred but not required . Experience with industrial sewing machines, skivers, leather machinery, or similar equipment is a plus. Willingness to learn the operation and maintenance of specialized leather manufacturing equipment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and move around the manufacturing shop for extended periods. Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and work in various positions when servicing equipment. Ability to safely lift and move tools, parts, and equipment as required. Ability to work around machinery, noise, dust, and normal manufacturing conditions. The right person does not necessarily need to know every machine when they start. We value someone who can diagnose problems, learn quickly, work safely, and take ownership of the maintenance and repair of our equipment. Experience level is flexible. Candidates with extensive mechanical experience as well as mechanically skilled individuals looking to grow into a maintenance role are encouraged to apply.
