Company-Owned Facilities Throughout South Jersey The Opportunity Byers Industrial Services is seeking an experienced Plumber & Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our team and become a key internal resource responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving our company-owned facilities throughout South Jersey. This is a full-time, permanent position based out of our Franklinville, NJ headquarters with year-round work, overtime opportunities, full benefits, and a 401(k) with company match. Strong professional plumbing experience is a core requirement of this position. We are not looking for a general handyman or basic maintenance technician who occasionally performs plumbing repairs. We are looking for an experienced plumber who is also mechanically inclined, versatile, and capable of taking on broader facilities maintenance responsibilities. The successful candidate should be able to walk into an existing building problem, investigate the issue, determine the root cause, and provide leadership with a clear recommendation for correcting it. We need a problem solver who can diagnose, recommend, and execute—not someone who requires step-by-step direction. Immediate Project - Cedarville Facility Rehabilitation The immediate priority for this position will be supporting the rehabilitation of our recently acquired facility in Cedarville, NJ. A major portion of the initial work will involve finish plumbing and troubleshooting existing plumbing systems throughout the building. This is not simply new plumbing installation from a set of drawings. We need someone who understands existing systems and can troubleshoot conditions where the cause of a problem may not immediately be obvious.

Responsibilities will include:

Perform finish plumbing throughout the Cedarville facility as rehabilitation work progresses. Troubleshoot existing plumbing systems and determine the root cause of leaks, drainage problems, pressure issues, failed components, and other deficiencies. Repair, replace, and modify domestic water, sanitary, drain, waste, and vent systems. Install and finish toilets, sinks, faucets, drains, valves, fixtures, water heaters, and associated plumbing components. Inspect existing plumbing and piping systems and identify deficiencies requiring repair, modification, or replacement. Diagnose recurring plumbing issues and develop permanent corrective solutions. Perform drain cleaning and troubleshoot recurring drainage and blockage problems. Repair and modify existing piping systems based on field conditions. Perform piping layout, measurement, cutting, threading, grooving, soldering, brazing, and assembly as applicable. Work with common commercial and industrial piping materials and joining methods. Perform pressure and operational testing following repairs and installations. Utilize appropriate plumbing diagnostic and inspection equipment when necessary. Read and interpret plumbing drawings, blueprints, schematics, specifications, and available building documentation. Determine materials, fittings, equipment, and tools required to complete repairs and installations. Communicate significant plumbing deficiencies and recommended corrective actions to company leadership. Assist with additional building repairs and improvements as the rehabilitation progresses. Long-Term Facilities Maintenance Responsibilities This position is not tied solely to the Cedarville project. Following and alongside the Cedarville rehabilitation, this individual will provide ongoing facilities maintenance support for Byers Industrial Services properties throughout South Jersey, including our Franklinville, Cedarville, and Monroeville locations .

Responsibilities will include:

Perform preventive, corrective, and general building maintenance. Inspect building systems and identify developing problems before they result in major failures or downtime. Troubleshoot and repair plumbing issues throughout company facilities. Maintain and repair water heaters, pumps, valves, fixtures, drains, piping, and related building infrastructure. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and routine facility inspections. Assist with basic HVAC maintenance, including filter replacement and general system inspections within demonstrated capabilities. Assist with minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs within demonstrated qualifications. Inspect pumps, motors, mechanical equipment, and other facility infrastructure. Perform minor carpentry, drywall repair, painting, caulking, door and hardware repairs, and fixture replacement. Support office, warehouse, and facility renovations and improvement projects. Perform general mechanical repairs and building improvements. Respond to water leaks, plumbing failures, and other urgent facility issues. Identify when work can be completed internally versus when a licensed or specialized outside contractor is required. Coordinate with electricians, HVAC technicians, contractors, and other skilled trades when necessary. Develop material lists and identify resources required for planned repairs. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, and completed work. Identify recurring facility problems and recommend long-term corrective solutions. Help maintain company facilities in a safe, functional, professional, and operational condition. Plumbing Experience Is Essential Although this is a multi-skilled Facilities Maintenance position, plumbing is the primary trade expertise we are seeking. Candidates should have legitimate hands-on plumbing experience beyond basic fixture replacement and general handyman repairs. Commercial and/or industrial plumbing experience strongly preferred. Journeyman-level or equivalent plumbing knowledge preferred. Strong experience troubleshooting and diagnosing existing plumbing systems. Experience performing finish plumbing, fixture installation, piping repairs, and system modifications. Ability to diagnose the root cause of plumbing problems rather than relying on temporary repairs. Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of building systems. Ability to independently investigate problems and determine appropriate corrective actions. Ability to clearly communicate problems, material requirements, and recommended solutions to leadership. Ability to read blueprints, plumbing drawings, schematics, specifications, and technical documentation. Working knowledge of applicable plumbing and building codes. Ability to accurately measure, calculate, and determine material requirements for repairs and installations. Experience safely operating hand tools, power tools, pipe threaders, drain-cleaning equipment, and other plumbing and maintenance equipment. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and safe work practices. Ability and willingness to perform facilities maintenance responsibilities outside of the plumbing trade. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple maintenance needs. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Reliable transportation. Ability to travel between company-owned facilities throughout South Jersey. Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding maintenance and construction work. Schedule & Availability This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of approximately 40 hours per week. Depending on project workload and company needs, employees may have opportunities to work approximately 50-60 hours per week. Weekend work is not routinely required, and this position is not a traditional on-call role. However, occasional flexibility is required when legitimate facility emergencies or critical company needs arise. This may include a significant water leak, plumbing failure, loss of a critical building system, or another condition that could result in property damage or significantly disrupt company operations.
