Job Description Utilities Worker Department:
Public Works Salary:
$17.00 The City of Hamilton is seeking a skilled and highly motivated candidate to join our team as a Utilities Worker. •
Definition of Position :
Under general supervision of the Utilities Director, the Utilities Worker will perform maintenance, repairs, and installation of City water and wastewater utility systems. Work includes maintaining water/sewer distribution lines, water/sewer mains, pumps, valves, hydrants, plant station sites, sewer lift stations, and related infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable service for the residents of the City of Hamilton.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a_ regular basis. In order to accomplish this, regular attendance MUST be maintained. Employee s are expected to perform other related duties, as assigned._ 1. Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of City water utilities, including water pipes, pumps, valves, hydrants, and water main systems. 2. Performs routine work inspecting, installing, maintaining, and repairing water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances. 3. Inspects and tests distribution system lines. 4. Conducts valve maintenance and leak detection. 5. Operates main line valves, hydrants, and fire service lines; pressure tests new construction lines; exercises valves and hydrants. 6. Monitors excavation activities to prevent damage to other underground utilities. 7. Responds to emergency calls from the public and other agencies; takes appropriate corrective action to repair water or sewer system issues. 8. Operates heavy and light equipment including backhoe and mini excavator. 9. Completes daily work reports and maintains accurate documentation of assignments and activities. 10. Organizes and prepares tools, equipment, and materials necessary to complete assigned work. 11. Inspects, cleans, and maintains equipment and tools in safe operating condition. 12. Performs routine inspections of assigned areas to identify necessary repairs or hazardous conditions. 13. Cleans and inspects sewer system. 14. Ability locate and accurately mark water and sewer lines, valves, and hydrants. 15. Adheres to all safety (OSHA), utility (TCEQ), and environmental (EPA) regulations.
Other Important Duties:
1. Assists with setup, teardown, and cleanup for City special events and meetings as required. 2. Will be
REQUIRED
to work on-call, evenings, weekends, and holidays. 3. Travels to attend meetings, certifications, and training sessions. 4. Performs other related duties as assigned. 5. Maintains regular and consistent attendance during assigned work hours.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
1. General maintenance and repair techniques for tools and equipment used in construction and utility maintenance. 2. Operation and maintenance of light equipment, power tools, and hand tools 3. Safe handling procedures for hazardous chemicals and materials. 4. City policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Skills in:
1. Following oral and written instructions. 2. Planning and organizing materials and supplies to complete work orders and daily assignments. 3. Operating assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools. 4. Resolving customer concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
Ability to:
1. Maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public. 2. Follow City policies and safety procedures. 3. Perform physically demanding labor in varying environmental conditions.
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
1. High School Diploma or GED required. 2. May be required to obtain certification or licensure specific to area of assignment within six (6) months of employment. 3. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical agility test, criminal background check, and motor vehicle record (MVR) check 4. Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver's License.
Environmental Factors & Physical Requirements:
1. Work is primarily be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. 2. Subject to repetitive motion and heavy manual labor, including digging, repairing water/sewer lines, transporting debris, and operating equipment. 3. May work in confined spaces, trenches, and at heights. 4. Daily physical activity includes extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing ladders, lifting heavy equipment, digging, and operating machinery. 5. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
