3-6 Months About the project The customer is migrating from a legacy PBX to Cisco Unified Communications Manager. The scope covers two adjacent facilities on a single campus, with approximately 933 active analog connections (roughly 591 at the primary facility and 342 at the secondary facility) currently served by legacy analog line cards, plus 5 elevator auto-dial lines and analog conference units that are being retained. We need an experienced telephony cabling technician to handle all physical analog plant work: surveying what is there today, preparing the cable plant, installing the new Cisco analog voice gateways, and executing the physical cutover to the new system. Existing punchdown documentation and a port map / cut sheet will be provided. You are not being asked to reverse-engineer an undocumented plant from scratch, but you will be expected to verify what the documentation says against what is actually on the blocks. Phases of work This is not a continuous engagement. Expect four distinct phases with gaps between them. Phase 1 — Site survey and discovery Walk both equipment rooms and IDFs. Verify the existing analog line-card inventory and block layout against the provided documentation. Identify station pairs requiring re-termination or re-ordering. Flag long station loops — including outdoor and remote extensions across the campus — that may need loop extenders or a nearer serving gateway. Confirm rack space and rack units, available power (circuit, receptacle type, capacity, redundancy), grounding, cooling, cable management, available network/switch connections, and cable pathway from existing blocks to each proposed gateway position. Deliver written findings and photos. You will also produce the bill of materials (BOM) for the physical work: recommend the specific patch panels, 66/110 blocks and mounting hardware, amphenol/Centronics and station cable, connectors, loop extenders, rack and cable-management hardware, labeling supplies, and consumables required to complete Phase 2 and Phase 3. Provide manufacturer part numbers and quantities per facility, with a short note on why each item was selected and any substitution options. We procure from your BOM, so accuracy and completeness matter — a missing part on cutover night is a real problem. Phase 2 — Prerequisite cabling All preparation work ahead of cutover: re-termination, rewiring, punchdown, amphenol/Centronics (25-pair) cable installation, patch panel and 66/110-block build-out, labeling, loop-extender installation, and any cabling remediation identified in Phase 1. Rack, mount, power, ground, and cable the new Cisco analog voice gateways. Phase 3 — Cutover (January 2027) Return on site to punch the analog stations over to the new Cisco gateway ports during an approved after-hours window. Work alongside a remote engineering team. Test and verify analog endpoints and elevator auto-dial lines as they come across, and remediate failures on the spot. Phase 4 — Post-cutover support Remain available for a defined stabilization period to address stragglers, mis-punches, and newly discovered analog circuits. Required skills and experience 5+ years hands-on telephony / voice cabling in commercial or campus environments 66-block and 110-block termination — high-volume punchdown work, clean and to standard Amphenol / Centronics 25-pair cable termination, dressing, and management Reading and working from cut sheets, port maps, and existing punchdown documentation, including catching and reporting discrepancies rather than punching through them Cable toning and tracing — proficient with tone generator and probe, butt set, and pair identification in a live plant Analog station testing and troubleshooting — loop current, dial tone verification, ring-down/PLAR circuits, opens/shorts/crosses/splits Rack and stack — mounting, power, grounding and bonding, cable management, and dressing to a professional finish Physical installation of Cisco analog voice gateways (VG-series, VG400/VG450, or ISR platforms with FXS 24-port or 48-port voice modules) and connection of FXS ports to blocks or patch panels Basic IP configuration — console into a gateway, set an IP address, verify reachability so the remote engineering team can take over. You are not doing dial-plan or CUCM work. Structured cabling fundamentals — Cat5e/6, TIA/EIA labeling standards, pathway and support practices Long-loop analog — understanding of loop length limits, loop extenders, and when a serving gateway needs to move closer Materials take-off and BOM development — able to translate survey findings into an accurate, buildable parts list with manufacturer part numbers and quantities, sized for the actual station count rather than padded or short Own tools and test gear, including punchdown tools, toner/probe, butt set, and cable tester Clear written documentation — as-built redlines, labeling records, and legible exception reporting back to the project team Able to work approved after-hours and overnight windows. The job location operates nearly year-round, so cutover work will be scheduled around its operating hours. Able to pass a background check and drug screen for property badging, and to complete site-specific safety orientation Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Preferred Prior work in a large multi-building campus environment — hospitality, resort, healthcare, education, industrial, or similar Experience on legacy PBX-to-Cisco or PBX-to-VoIP analog migrations specifically BICSI certification (Installer 1/2, Technician) or equivalent Familiarity with elevator auto-dial and emergency phone circuits, and the code sensitivity around them Comfortable coordinating directly with elevator, alarm, and facilities vendors on site Physical requirements Work is performed in equipment rooms, IDFs, and across a large multi-building campus. Expect extended standing, kneeling, and overhead work; ladder and lift use; lifting up to 50 lbs; and walking between facilities. Must provide your own tools.
