Peraton is seeking a skilled Network Engineer / Cable Technician to support the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) enterprise infrastructure program. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the physical installation, termination, and maintenance of structured cabling systems across DOE facilities, while also supporting broader network engineering operations. This position is ideal for a technically proficient professional who takes pride in clean, code-compliant installations and thrives in a mission-driven federal environment.
Pull, route, dress, and terminate copper (twisted pair) and fiber optic cabling in accordance with applicable standards and site-specific requirements
Terminate and test Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cables (single-mode and multi-mode) including connectors, patch panels, and wall plates
Perform fiber splicing, polishing, and end-face inspection using industry-standard tools and equipment
Conduct cable testing and certification using tools such as Fluke DSX or similar cable analyzers; document and resolve failures
Install and label cable trays, conduit, J-hooks, and other cable management infrastructure
Coordinate with facilities, construction, and government stakeholders to plan and execute cabling projects with minimal disruption to operations
Maintain accurate as-built documentation, cable schedules, and labeling records in accordance with DOE standards
Ad to all site safety requirements, including working in raised floor environments, above ceiling spaces, and data center facilitiesRequired Education
Minimum of 2 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with High School Diploma
Required Qualifications
Hands-on experience in structured cabling installation and termination in an enterprise or federal environment
Demonstrated proficiency with copper and fiber optic cabling, including termination, splicing, and testing
Experience reading and interpreting floor plans, network diagrams, and cabling schematics
Ability to operate cable testing and certification equipment
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to clean, organized, and properly documented installations
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders, and operate in confined or above-ceiling spaces
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
Must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency with fiber cable is preferred, not required
BICSI Installer 1 or Installer 2 certification (copper and/or fiber)
CompTIA Network+ or equivalent networking certification
Experience supporting federal government or DOE facilities
Familiarity with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools
Experience with outside plant (OSP) fiber installation
Knowledge of basic network switching, patching, and troubleshooting
Target Salary Range:
$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
