About Signature Home Technologies Signature Home Technologies is seeking a dependable, technically minded Smart Home Technician to join our team full-time in Moorhead, Minnesota. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys technology, working with their hands, solving problems, and delivering a high-quality finished product. As a Smart Home Technician, you will work primarily in residential environments installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and servicing smart home technology. Projects may include home automation, audio/video systems, networking and Wi-Fi, surveillance cameras, lighting control, motorized shades, structured wiring, and related low-voltage systems. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, pays attention to details, communicates professionally with customers and coworkers, and is interested in building a long-term career in the smart home and low-voltage technology industry. Compensation $20.00-$26.00 per hour , depending on experience, technical knowledge, and qualifications. Candidates with previous experience in smart home technology, low-voltage installation, audio/video systems, networking, electrical work, or related trades may qualify toward the higher end of the pay range. What You'll Do Your responsibilities will include: Install, terminate, test, label, and troubleshoot low-voltage cabling, including Cat6, coaxial, speaker wire, control wire, and other system cabling. Install and configure smart home and automation equipment. Install televisions, displays, speakers, soundbars, amplifiers, receivers, and other audio/video equipment. Install in-wall, in-ceiling, indoor, and outdoor speakers. Install and configure home networking equipment, including routers, switches, wireless access points, and related devices. Diagnose Wi-Fi and network connectivity issues. Install surveillance cameras, video doorbells, and related security equipment where applicable. Install and assist with lighting control, motorized shades, thermostats, and other connected-home products. Build and organize equipment racks, structured wiring panels, and network enclosures. Properly terminate and test network, audio, video, and control connections. Mount equipment safely and professionally while protecting customers' homes and property. Configure devices, applications, user interfaces, and system settings. Perform system testing and quality-control checks before project completion. Troubleshoot existing systems and identify hardware, wiring, network, configuration, or programming issues. Perform service calls, equipment replacements, system upgrades, and preventative maintenance. Clearly explain system operation to homeowners and provide basic customer training. Document work performed, equipment installed, programming/configuration changes, and outstanding project items. Maintain tools, equipment, company vehicles, and jobsite materials. Keep jobsites clean, organized, and professional throughout the installation process. Work closely with project managers, other technicians, electricians, builders, designers, and other trades. Follow company installation standards, manufacturer requirements, safety procedures, and applicable codes. Continue learning new products, technologies, installation methods, and industry best practices. Preferred qualifications include:
Previous experience with smart home technology, home automation, low-voltage systems, audio/video, networking, security, electrical work, telecommunications, or a related trade. Experience pulling and terminating Cat5e/Cat6, coaxial, speaker, and low-voltage wiring. Familiarity with residential networking, Wi-Fi, routers, switches, and wireless access points. Experience installing TVs, speakers, cameras, equipment racks, and other electronic equipment. Understanding of basic construction methods and the ability to work safely in finished and unfinished residential environments. Ability to read plans, wiring diagrams, equipment documentation, and installation instructions. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, ladders, testers, and other installation equipment. Basic computer, smartphone, and tablet proficiency. Strong attention to detail and commitment to clean, professional workmanship. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, builders, and other trades. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to manage time effectively. Willingness to learn new technologies and participate in manufacturer or industry training. Experience with platforms or technologies such as Control4, Sonos, Ubiquiti/UniFi, Sony, Samsung, LG, networking, surveillance, distributed audio, lighting control, or motorized shades is a plus, but we are willing to consider candidates with strong technical or trade experience who are eager to learn. Physical Requirements This is a hands-on field position.
Candidates must be able to:
Regularly lift and carry tools, televisions, speakers, equipment, and materials. Lift approximately 50 pounds independently when required. Work from ladders and step stools. Work above shoulder height for periods of time. Bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined spaces when necessary. Work in attics, basements, mechanical rooms, and construction environments. Safely use hand tools and power tools. Work indoors and outdoors depending on the project and weather conditions. Requirements Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Reliable transportation to our Moorhead location or designated meeting location. Ability to travel to customer homes and project sites throughout the Fargo-Moorhead area and surrounding communities. Ability to pass any required background screening. Ability to maintain a professional appearance and conduct while working in customers' homes. Ability to follow safety procedures and company policies. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous low-voltage, electrical, construction, AV, IT, networking, or smart home experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate.
