Diesel Mechanic Shop Lead

Job Description

Manage a team of mechanics in tractor/trailer repair and maintenance shop for a well-established trucking company.
Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge of diesel and fuel engine maintenance and repair Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs independently Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts Experience managing a diesel repair shop Valid Driver License - CDL A is a BIG plus, but not required Ability to use Microsoft Office products and learn other software
Experience:
Five years experience as mechanic Prior management experience is a BIG plus
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair Schedule mechanics and repair/maintenance orders each day. Evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles using diagnostic equipment. Help mechanics evaluate minor mechanical problems, and inspect repairs completed. Rebuild, replace, or repair major vehicle components, assemblies, and systems including engines, transmissions, suspensions, etc. Check and repair electrical and cooling systems, and install heaters and similar accessories. Estimate time and materials required to perform major repairs. Analyze engine performance and perform tune-ups as needed. Perform routine vehicle maintenance and preventive care. Maintain accurate, updated preventive maintenance records. Help train mechanics and mechanic helpers. Safety Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties. Ensure shop, equipment, and tools are in safe operating condition. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. Work irregular hours as needed. Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service. Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Monitor and direct work of mechanics and mechanic helpers.
Equipment Used:
Computers, automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small hand tools, drill, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, welding torch, torque wrench, torch, jack, and lift equipment.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.
