Job Description
A well-established heavy civil fleet is hiring a Senior Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic & Yard Manager in Pleasanton, CA to maintain equipment and manage yard operations. Ideal candidates bring diesel, diagnostic, and fabrication experience. for steady day-shift work with overtime opportunities, equipment variety, and hands-on leadership responsibility. Duties & Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension, brakes, HVAC, and electrical systems on heavy equipment, dump trucks, and fleet vehicles. Maintain Bobcat, Caterpillar, Kubota, and similar equipment, along with skid steers, excavators, loaders, and support vehicles. Perform routine maintenance, inspections, oil changes, tire service, wheel alignments, and repairs to maximize uptime. Fabricate parts or equipment modifications using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment as needed. Organize the yard, coordinate equipment movement, loading and unloading, yard safety, stock levels, and parts inventory. Build and maintain service schedules, inspection checklists, repair logs, maintenance records, and repeatable repair processes. Safely operate heavy equipment and direct one or more yard helpers as staffing and workload allow.
Requirements Required:
Proven experience as a diesel mechanic working on heavy equipment, diesel trucks, fleet vehicles, or similar equipment. Hands-on experience with Caterpillar, Bobcat, Kubota, or comparable heavy equipment. Working knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, HVAC, brakes, and suspension systems. Ability to read schematics, use diagnostic tools, and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and equipment issues. Fabrication experience using welding equipment, hand tools, and power tools. Comfortable operating skid steers, excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment safely. Leadership experience managing yard operations, repair priorities, helpers, or similar team responsibilities.
Preferred:
Dealership or heavy equipment repair experience. Experience organizing a shop or yard, setting up maintenance systems, or improving repair processes. Experience managing parts, consumables, inventory, or stock levels. #SJ1
Compensation:
$30.00 - $50.00/hour based on experience and qualifications Overtime opportunities available
