School Bus Diesel Mechanic

Job Description

Job Purpose:
Maintains, repairs, and overhauls school buses and other company vehicles. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of maintenance tasks. Wage is based on experience. Monthly health insurance stipend provided to eligible employees Paid holidays Paid weekly
Major Responsibilities:
Repairs and maintains school buses and other company vehicles while adhering to FMCSA guidelines. Inspects and tests equipment at prescribed intervals of time and usage or upon malfunction or breakdown. Inspects, tests, and aligns bus lights and wheels and maintains electrical systems and controls. Balances wheels to minimize wear on tires and rotates wheels at prescribed mileage intervals. Tunes up engine to maintain combustion control standards. Adjusts equipment to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards. Disassembles, inspects, and replaces worn or broken parts. Fixes and adjusts new or repaired parts. Oils and greases vehicles; changes filters. Test drives repaired equipment.
Minimum Education & Certifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent Technical training preferred
Requirements & Expectations:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the transportation industry preferred 3+ years of related mechanical experience or trade school with endorsements such as Preventative Maintenance or Brake Certifications preferred Good verbal communication skills. Perform all job functions in the safest manner adhering to OSHA guidelines & other applicable Federal& State laws Execute all job duties while following company policy and procedure
Skills:
Ability to successfully complete DOT physical and comply with drug free workplace policy Maintenance shop/garage/school bus yard /Office/On-the-road. Some outdoor work. Must be able to work in a crouched position or on back lying on mechanic's dolly beneath motor vehicle equipment Subjected to dust, dirt, and greasy conditions.
