Job Description

GFL Environmental seeks a Diesel Mechanic to keep our waste and recycling fleet safe, reliable, and compliant. In this on-site role, you will inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel trucks and waste collection equipment, including engines, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems. You'll perform preventive maintenance, respond to breakdowns, and complete accurate repair documentation. Working in a safety-first, team-focused culture, you'll support essential environmental services while accessing ongoing training, growth opportunities, and stable, long-term career paths. Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel trucks and waste collection equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation. Perform preventive maintenance services, including fluid changes, filter replacements, and safety inspections. Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, brake, and drivetrain systems using appropriate tools and diagnostics. Complete accurate work orders, maintenance logs, and parts usage records in accordance with company standards. Follow all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and shop housekeeping practices. Collaborate with drivers, supervisors, and fleet managers to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime. Participate in ongoing training to stay current with new equipment, technologies, and repair methods. Required Skills Diesel engine repair Hydraulic systems troubleshooting Brake systems maintenance (air & hydraulic) Electrical diagnostics (12 V/24 V) Preventive maintenance inspections Welding and fabrication basics Use of diagnostic software and scan tools Reading technical manuals and schematics Shop safety and OSHA compliance Recordkeeping and work order systems
