Job Description

School Bus Technician Academic Transport (Nix Bus Sales Inc.) — Poseyville, IN About Us Academic Transport is a locally owned school bus transportation company operating a fleet of approximately 35 buses across 29 routes, proudly serving MSD of Mount Vernon, EVSC, and South Gibson School Corporation. We're a small, hands-on team that takes pride in keeping our fleet safe and reliable for the students and families who depend on us every day. The Role We're looking for a School Bus Technician to join our shop and help keep our fleet running safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on role covering everything from routine maintenance to diagnostics and repair on our bus fleet. We're a tight-knit shop, and you'll work closely with our team to keep our buses road-ready and DOT compliant. For the right person, there's real room to grow with our company as we continue to expand. Responsibilities Perform routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires, fluids, belts, filters) on school buses Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues Conduct DOT-required inspections and ensure buses meet all FMCSA/state safety standards Complete accurate maintenance records and documentation for each vehicle Respond to on-road breakdowns and perform field repairs as needed Keep the shop organized, clean, and operating safely Communicate clearly with drivers and management about vehicle status and repair needs Qualifications Prior experience as a diesel, fleet, or automotive technician (school bus or commercial vehicle experience a plus, but not required) Working knowledge of engine, brake, electrical, and HVAC systems Ability to read and interpret technical/repair manuals and diagnostic equipment Valid driver's license required; CDL not required to apply — we will train and support you in obtaining your CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements, which will be required once hired Strong attention to detail — you're working on vehicles that carry kids Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a small team Basic computer skills for maintenance record-keeping What We Offer Competitive pay based on experience Health insurance 401(k) with company match CDL training provided if you don't already have one Steady, local work — no overnight travel A small company where your work is visible and valued Opportunity for growth as our fleet and team expand How to Apply Apply through Indeed or contact Academic Transport directly to learn more about the role.
