Job Description

Diesel Mechanic $28 to $35 per hour
Job Summary:
MTN is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team. In this role, you'll be responsible for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of our school bus fleet to ensure all vehicles meet DOT and state safety standards . The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic abilities, hands-on diesel engine experience, and a passion for vehicle safety and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues on diesel-powered school buses and fleet vehicles. Perform preventive maintenance and DOT inspections in accordance with federal, state, and company policies. Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot engines, transmissions, brakes, and electronic systems. Conduct major mechanical repairs including engine overhauls and component replacements. Maintain vehicle records and ensure buses are safe and ready for operation. Perform bodywork and sheet metal repairs, including light painting when necessary. Respond to on-site breakdowns and assist drivers with vehicle issues. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment per OSHA and company standards. Assist in parts inventory management and ordering. Work closely with drivers, dispatchers, and management to minimize vehicle downtime.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic (fleet or school bus experience preferred). Solid knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air brakes, and electrical diagnostics. ASE Certifications in Medium/Heavy Duty Truck preferred. Familiarity with DOT and OSHA regulations. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor weather conditions. CDL with endorsements (or willingness to obtain) is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
Degree or certification in Diesel Mechanics, Automotive Technology, or related field. Experience with Cummins engines highly preferred. ASE Certification(s) strongly encouraged. To apply, please submit your application through Indeed.
