Job Description

Interstate Waste Services seeks a Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of waste and recycling trucks in the Automotive department. Responsibilities include performing inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulics, braking, and electrical systems to ensure safe, reliable operation. The mechanic will complete preventive maintenance, document work in repair systems, and respond to road calls as needed. Working in our safety-focused, team-oriented environment, you'll use modern tools and equipment, receive on-the-job training, and support dependable waste and recycling services for local communities. Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered waste and recycling trucks Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize downtime Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, brake, and electrical systems Conduct safety and DOT-related inspections and document findings Respond to road calls and perform on-site repairs when needed Accurately record all work performed in maintenance systems Follow all shop, environmental, and safety procedures Collaborate with drivers and supervisors to prioritize repairs Use diagnostic tools, manuals, and schematics to resolve issues Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Required Skills Diesel engine diagnostics and repair Heavy truck brake systems (air and hydraulic) Hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair Truck electrical systems and wiring diagnostics Preventive maintenance on heavy trucks Use of diagnostic scan tools and software Welding and fabrication (basic) DOT and safety inspection procedures Reading technical manuals and schematics Shop safety and OSHA practices
