May be available as operational needs require Position Overview National Iron and Metals is hiring an experienced Lead Diesel Mechanic to inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair our company-owned fleet onsite. Our fleet includes Peterbilt, International, and Mack commercial trucks , along with 52-foot drop-deck trailers, 36-foot roll-off trailers, and other commercial equipment. This is a newly created position with the opportunity to help National Iron and Metals build an in-house fleet-maintenance operation from the ground up. The mechanic will handle immediate inspections and repairs while helping management select the proper shop equipment, specialty tools, diagnostic software, replacement parts, and preventive-maintenance systems. We need someone who is dependable, experienced, safety-conscious, and capable of working independently. Primary Responsibilities Inspect company trucks and trailers daily before they are dispatched Identify and correct potential DOT out-of-service violations Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled fleet services Diagnose mechanical, electrical, air, and hydraulic problems Diagnose and repair diesel engines and related components Diagnose problems involving DPF, DEF, SCR, and other emissions systems Inspect, diagnose, and repair commercial air-brake systems Repair air leaks, brake chambers, slack adjusters, valves, air lines, drums, shoes, pads, and related components Repair truck and trailer electrical systems, wiring, batteries, starters, alternators, lights, and connections Repair suspension, steering, air bags, wheel ends, hubs, bearings, axles, and related components Repair and maintain 52-foot drop-deck trailers Repair and maintain 36-foot roll-off trailers and related hydraulic components Perform oil changes, filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks, and scheduled maintenance Inspect tires, wheels, mud flaps, reflective tape, fifth wheels, kingpins, coupling devices, and safety equipment Perform safe onsite or roadside repairs when practical Clearly identify trucks or trailers that are unsafe to operate Coordinate specialized outside repairs when a job cannot be completed onsite Review outside repair work and verify that repairs were completed correctly Maintain accurate inspection, repair, service, and parts records Establish preventive-maintenance schedules for each truck and trailer Track upcoming services, annual inspections, registrations, and repairs Help establish an inventory of commonly used replacement parts and supplies Recommend the tools, diagnostic software, jacks, stands, compressors, welders, and other shop equipment the company should purchase Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area Minimum Qualifications At least three years of professional heavy-duty diesel repair experience Five or more years of fleet or commercial-truck experience strongly preferred Experience repairing Class 7 and Class 8 commercial trucks Experience repairing commercial truck and trailer air-brake systems Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills Knowledge of DOT inspection standards and common out-of-service violations Ability to diagnose problems and complete repairs with limited supervision Ability to provide documentation showing compliance with FMCSA brake-inspector qualification requirements under 49 CFR §396.25 Ability to use computers, diagnostic equipment, and electronic fleet-maintenance records Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Must have or be willing to provide basic personal mechanic hand tools Must be able to work safely in an active industrial and scrap-yard environment Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and perform work involving standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working underneath equipment Must pass a pre-employment drug test Preferred Qualifications and Certifications Class A CDL Qualified to perform FMCSA annual commercial-vehicle inspections ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certifications, particularly: T2

• Preventive Maintenance Inspection ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician certification EPA Section 609 air-conditioning certification Texas Commercial Vehicle Inspector certification Welding and fabrication experience Hydraulic system experience Experience repairing roll-off systems Experience using diesel diagnostic software Manufacturer training involving Peterbilt/PACCAR, Cummins, International/Navistar, Mack/Volvo, Bendix, WABCO, or Allison systems Heavy-Equipment Experience Is a Major Plus Applicants with experience diagnosing and repairing the following equipment will receive additional consideration: Excavators Material handlers Forklifts Hydraulic cylinders, pumps, valves, hoses, and attachments Other diesel-powered scrap-yard or construction equipment Tools and Shop Development Candidates should have their own basic mechanic hand tools.

National Iron and Metals will invest in approved specialty tools, diagnostic software, major shop equipment, safety equipment, and commonly used replacement parts as the in-house maintenance operation is developed. The selected mechanic will have a direct role in recommending and helping establish the company's maintenance shop. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an experienced diesel mechanic who can inspect the fleet each day, catch problems before trucks leave the yard, complete repairs correctly, reduce outside repair costs, and help prevent breakdowns and DOT out-of-service violations. This position requires someone who takes ownership of fleet safety, communicates honestly about equipment condition, and understands the importance of keeping commercial trucks and trailers safe and operational.
