1 Responsibilities Perform diagnostics repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy duty trucks and trailers including engines transmissions drivetrains brake systems electrical systems and HVAC Complete DOT inspections and ensure vehicles meet all applicable federal state and safety regulations Read and interpret technical manuals wiring diagrams and diagnostic software to identify root causes of mechanical issues Accurately document all work performed including labor time parts used and diagnostic findings on repair orders Road test vehicles to confirm proper repair and performance Maintain a clean organized and safe work area in accordance with shop safety standards Communicate clearly with service advisors and shop foreman regarding repair status additional needed repairs and parts requirements Maintain and properly use all shop tools and diagnostic equipment Stay current on manufacturer training technical bulletins and certification requirements Provide input on estimated repair times and assist in identifying additional repair opportunities Mentor and assist junior technicians or apprentices as needed Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in diesel or heavy duty truck repair preferred 2+ years of experience as a diesel/heavy duty truck technician (entry-level candidates with relevant training may be considered) ASE certifications (T-series) or manufacturer-specific certifications preferred Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain Working knowledge of engine electrical hydraulic air brake and drivetrain systems on Class 6-8 vehicles Experience with diagnostic software (e.g. Cummins Insite Detroit DDDL Allison DOC or similar) a plus Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to work efficiently under flat-rate or production pay structures Valid driver's license with a good driving record Must be able to pass a drug test and criminal background check
