Based on experience and qualifications Superior Road Service is seeking an experienced and dependable On-Call Mobile Diesel Mechanic to perform roadside service calls throughout Waynesboro, Staunton, Augusta County, and surrounding areas. This is an on-call position and does not have guaranteed or set hours . Work hours will vary based on service-call volume. Applicants must be flexible and available to respond to calls during days, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. Responsibilities Respond promptly to assigned roadside service calls. Diagnose and repair diesel trucks, commercial vehicles, and trailers. Perform emergency repairs involving brakes, air systems, electrical systems, starters, alternators, cooling systems, fuel systems, and other mechanical components. Complete tire changes, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel deliveries, and other roadside services when needed. Communicate repair findings, recommendations, and estimated completion times. Keep dispatch updated throughout every service call. Accurately document all labor, parts, mileage, and services performed. Collect customer payments when directed and immediately submit payment information to the office. Maintain assigned tools, equipment, parts, and service vehicles. Follow company safety procedures and provide professional customer service. Assist with shop repairs and other mechanical work when available. Required Qualifications Previous diesel, heavy-truck, or commercial-vehicle repair experience. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities. Working knowledge of diesel engines, brakes, electrical systems, air systems, and commercial trailers. Ability to work independently and make sound repair decisions. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Reliable transportation and dependable attendance. Ability to safely lift heavy parts and perform repairs outdoors in varying weather and roadside conditions. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, dispatchers, vendors, and other employees. Ability to use a smartphone for dispatching, photographs, service documentation, and customer communication. Willingness to work an on-call schedule with varying hours. Preferred Qualifications Mobile or roadside diesel-repair experience. Commercial tire-service experience. Welding or fabrication experience. Experience with diagnostic scanners and electrical troubleshooting. CDL or Virginia state inspection certification is a plus but is not required. Schedule and Availability This is an on-call position. Hours will vary depending on service-call volume. There are no guaranteed weekly hours. Applicants must be available for varying shifts, including some nights, weekends, and holidays. The mechanic must respond promptly when accepting an assigned call. What We Are Looking For We need someone dependable, honest, motivated, and capable of working without constant supervision. The successful candidate must understand the urgency of commercial roadside repairs and respond quickly when customers are broken down. Professionalism, accurate documentation, communication with dispatch, and proper handling of customer payments are essential.
