Position Summary
Thompson Power Systems is a division of The Thompson Tractor Company and has been providing critical power to Alabama and Northwest Florida for more than 65 years. The Electric Power Generation (EPG) Technician is responsible for performing jobs involving the service and repair of equipment, working both independently and on a team. Examples of the types of machinery that the candidate must be able to evaluate, and repair include electric power generators, diesel power generators, and other power systems. Extensive on-the-job training, classroom instruction, and e-learning must be successfully completed to remain in the technician training program. The Technician will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner. The Technician will advance in classification as attitude, skill level, and job performance allows.
Essential Responsibilities & Expectations
Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures
Orders and return parts for assigned jobs in timely manner
Ability to perform the following tasks on basic components in work area including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install; disassemble and reassemble; perform minor adjustments
Ability to perform Preventive Maintenance service according to factory guidelines
Demonstrates proper use of service information systems
Works as helper in field service with experienced Technician as required
Adheres to and follows all applicable and required safety standards and procedures
Works independently in the field as required
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or the equivalent required. Experience
A minimum of one (1) to three (3) years' work experience involving mechanical repairs, or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education required. Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills required. Skills & Competencies

Safety Summary
Working Conditions
Work is normally performed in a Thompson Power Systems Service Department shop or on location of customer job sites.
Exposure to physical risk and all-weather conditions is associated with this position.
Standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time is often required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to pass pre-employment background check, physical exam (including drug screen), and perform all physical requirements of the position. Ability to speak, listen, write, and type effectively
Ability to reach, kneel, grasp, and stoop Ability to safely lift up to 75 lbs.
