Job Description

Job Overview The Water & Sewer Public Works Employee performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the municipal water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This position supports daily operations to ensure safe, reliable water and sewer services for the community. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Water & Sewer Supervisor. Duties Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water lines, sewer lines, manholes, valves, hydrants, and related infrastructure. Operations and maintenance of wastewater treatment facility. Operate light and heavy equipment, including trucks, tractors, compactors, and excavation equipment. Perform routine inspections, leak detection, and preventative maintenance activities. Respond to service calls, emergencies, and after-hours situations as needed. Maintain accurate logs, work orders, and documentation. Ensure compliance with safety procedures, department policies, and regulatory requirements. Perform general labor duties including digging, lifting, cleaning, and site restoration. Assist other Public Works divisions as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license Ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery safely. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting 50+ lbs, working outdoors, and working in confined spaces. Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn. Knowledge of water/wastewater systems preferred but not required—training provided.
