Vicon Machinery is seeking a mechanically and technically capable Field Service and Training Technician to install, support, and service CNC plasma and laser cutting systems used by HVAC sheet-metal fabricators. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position that combines machine installation, equipment troubleshooting, software training, and technical support. Previous experience with CNC machinery, plasma cutting, laser cutting, or HVAC fabrication is not required. Vicon provides approximately three months of structured in-house and field training covering our machines, cutting systems, software, installation procedures, and customer-support practices. Successful candidates should be comfortable working with mechanical equipment, electrical and electronic systems, computers, and general hardware. We are open to candidates with different combinations of experience. A strong mechanical background, electrical or electronics knowledge, computer hardware experience, or related technical aptitude may provide a good foundation for the position. Primary Responsibilities Travel to customer facilities to install and commission Vicon CNC plasma and laser cutting machines. Assemble, configure, calibrate, test, and verify machine operation at the customer's location. Train customer personnel on machine operation, routine maintenance, safety, Vicon software, part preparation, nesting, and cutting workflows. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, computer, networking, motion-control, pneumatic, and related equipment problems. Work with plasma, laser, and other equipment manufacturers when troubleshooting involves OEM components or specialized cutting equipment. Perform scheduled service, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on existing customer machines. Provide telephone and remote technical support from the Meadville facility during normal business hours when working in-house. Assist customers with machine operation, software use, hardware problems, replacement-part identification, and service coordination. Document installations, service work, customer training, repairs, and technical-support activity. Communicate customer feedback and recurring technical issues to Vicon's engineering and support teams. Travel and Typical Work Schedule The position requires regular travel, averaging approximately two weeks per month. A typical installation is scheduled for one customer during a single week. Technicians generally travel to the customer on Monday, complete the installation and training during the week, and return by Friday. Service trips may be shorter and can include multiple customer visits within the same geographic region. Although schedules occasionally vary based on customer requirements, technicians are generally home for the weekend. Most travel is within the United States and Canada, although occasional overseas travel may be required. Air travel is common, while some nearby assignments may be completed using a company vehicle. Flight time and driving time are considered part of the paid workday. The position is hourly, and overtime is somewhat common during installations and service assignments. Approved business-travel expenses are paid by the company. Employees generally use a company credit card and submit receipts for airfare, lodging, meals, rental transportation, and other authorized expenses. Mileage to and from the airport is reimbursed when applicable. Qualifications Strong mechanical, electrical, electronic, computer-hardware, or general technical aptitude. Ability to use diagnostic tools, including a multimeter. Ability to read and follow technical documentation, diagrams, and troubleshooting procedures. Strong problem-solving skills and a systematic approach to diagnosing equipment issues. Ability to learn and explain technical software and machine-operation procedures. Professional communication skills and comfort working directly with customers. Ability to work independently at customer facilities after completing training. Physical ability to assemble, inspect, access, and service industrial machinery. Willingness and ability to travel regularly, including travel to Canada and occasional overseas assignments. Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain the documents required for international travel.
