Rolling Stock Mechanic Intern Westervelt Lumber | Moundville, AL Part-Time Internship Start Your Career in Industrial Maintenance Westervelt Lumber is seeking a motivated Rolling Stock Mechanic Intern to join our Maintenance team in Moundville, Alabama. This hands-on internship is designed for individuals interested in developing mechanical skills and gaining real-world experience maintaining and repairing mobile equipment and rolling stock used in a manufacturing environment. As a Rolling Stock Mechanic Intern, you will work alongside experienced mechanics and maintenance professionals to learn equipment inspection, troubleshooting, repair processes, preventative maintenance practices, and workplace safety procedures. What You'll Learn & Assist With Conducting inspections and basic diagnostic tests on vehicles and equipment Identifying worn or damaged components Assisting with equipment repairs, adjustments, and preventative maintenance Learning proper use of tools and shop equipment Performing basic machine shop tasks under supervision Supporting maintenance documentation and work order processes Assisting with parts inventory and ordering processes Participating in equipment testing and performance verification Following all company safety procedures, including PPE and lockout/tagout requirements Communicating effectively with maintenance team members and equipment operators Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Technical, Industrial Maintenance, Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, or related program preferred Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn Ability to work safely in an industrial environment Dependable attendance and positive work ethic Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to adapt to changing priorities and assignments Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to climb stairs and ladders Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, dust, heat, and outdoor conditions Ability to work from elevated positions while utilizing required safety equipment Why Join Westervelt Lumber?
