Veteran Preference Summary:

This class of employee performs semi-skilled work in the operation of several types of medium-duty mobile machinery. Employees in this class are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of motorized equipment in the construction and maintenance of county roads or right of way. Core operations include the use of earthmoving, grading, vegetation management, and paving systems. This role combines skilled machinery operation with essential site support and manual labor to ensure comprehensive project completion.

Responsibilities:

Maintains a professional, service-oriented presence and positive attitude for the county during all field operations. Operate a versatile fleet including mini-excavators, loaders, and graders, as well as industrial tractors equipped with specialized mowing, excavation, or vegetation management attachments, to maintain and improve county road rights-of-way. lbs. Perform routine service, repairs, maintenance and construction. Assists mechanics when equipment is being repaired. As a trainee, may operate other types of heavy equipment. Performs physical labor using essential site tools to complete tasks involving excavation, concrete finishing, and material handling (wood, cement, asphalt, aggregates). Performs daily pre-operation equipment inspections of fluids in equipment, i.e. oil, water, etc Drives motor vehicle on a day to day basis as part of assigned duties. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some experience in the operation of varied heavy equipment and a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the following knowledge, skill, and abilities: Comprehensive understanding of safety protocols and best practices for the operation and preventative care of mobile machinery. Knowledge of all laws and county regulations pertaining to the operation of the equipment. Ability to understand and carry out verbal or written directions. Ability to safely operate assigned equipment during all types of weather conditions. Ability to accurately interpret and complex instructions provided through service requests, printed or digital work orders, and written or verbal directions. Ability to prioritize daily tasks and accurately document work progress, including equipment hours and material usage, using both traditional paper logs and electronic devices or mobile work order platforms Demonstrated proficiency in operating a diverse fleet of medium-duty and multi-functional maintenance equipment. Qualifications:

Valid Florida Driver's License for required travel. Employer conducts background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record check. A minimum of one (1) years' experience with the ability to demonstrate skill in the operation of two or more pieces of Equipment Operator I level equipment; or a combination of education or experience equivalent to these requirements. High School Diploma or GED.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to see and hear (with or without corrective devices). Ability to reach, stand for long periods, walk, stoop and bend. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties for this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes, chemicals or airborne particles. Ability to perform manual labor while exposed to all types of outdoor weather conditions. Noise level in this work environment is usually loud.
