Job Description

Keep Carmel Moving. The City of Carmel is seeking an experienced Mechanic to help maintain one of Indiana's premier municipal fleets. If you enjoy solving mechanical challenges, working on everything from passenger vehicles to heavy equipment, and taking pride in work that directly serves the community, we'd love to have you on our team. What You'll Do Diagnose, repair, and maintain cars, pickup trucks, dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, bucket trucks, snowplows, spreaders, and other heavy equipment. Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and computerized systems. Complete welding, fabrication, body repair, and small engine maintenance. Install and service electronic equipment, including radios and onboard technology. Maintain repair records, manage parts inventory, and help keep the shop safe, organized, and efficient. Diagnose, repair, and maintain cars, pickup trucks, dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, bucket trucks, snowplows, spreaders, and other heavy equipment. Work Environment This is a physically active position requiring work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Candidates must be able to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and participate in 24-hour on-call snow operations, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency response when needed. What We're Looking For High school diploma or GED with vocational or technical training in automotive repair. Five (5) or more years of automotive and heavy equipment repair experience. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills. Welding and fabrication experience. Valid Indiana Driver's License. Ability to obtain a CDL within one year of employment. Fleet maintenance software and hybrid vehicle experience are a plus. Foundational Elements Vision Be the best run, most desirable city in the nation.
