Job Description

Position Summary Fechko Excavating LLC is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our fleet maintenance team. This position is covered under the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 18 collective bargaining agreement. The ideal candidate brings 5 or more years of hands-on mechanical experience servicing and repairing heavy construction equipment including excavators, dozers, graders, pavers, and support vehicles. This role is critical to keeping our fleet operational, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe, productive field operations across all active project sites. Responsibilities Include Perform diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance on a wide range of heavy construction equipment including excavators, bulldozers, motor graders, scrapers, concrete pavers, rollers, and support vehicles. Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance including oil and filter changes, fluid checks, undercarriage inspection, and component lubrication per manufacturer specifications. Inspect equipment for structural defects, worn components, and safety concerns; document findings and initiate repair orders accordingly. Perform field service and emergency breakdown repairs at active job sites as needed. Utilize computerized diagnostic software to troubleshoot engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electronic control systems. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance performed, parts used, and labor hours in the fleet management system. Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with OSHA regulations and company safety standards. Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of verifiable experience as a heavy equipment mechanic in a construction, excavating, or fleet maintenance environment. Current membership in good standing with IUOE Local 18, or eligibility to join prior to start date. Advanced knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, electrical systems, undercarriage, and drivetrain components. Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred. Compensation & Benefits Wages and benefits are governed by the IUOE Local 18 collective bargaining agreement. Current scale is $48.78 plus fringe benefits. Health insurance through the Local 18 benefit funds. Pension and annuity contributions per the CBA. Other benefits include dental and vision coverage, 401(k) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA), and paid time off.
