In this energetic role, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing a diverse fleet of municipal vehicles and equipment. Your mechanical expertise will ensure that our vehicles operate efficiently and safely, supporting the community's daily operations. Duties Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on various municipal vehicles including trucks, loaders, and specialized equipment Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment such as ohmmeters to troubleshoot mechanical issues accurately Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, and parts used for each vehicle or piece of equipment Conduct vehicle safety checks to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations Assist in the installation, adjustment, and calibration of mechanical components as needed Respond promptly to emergency repair requests to minimize downtime and maintain operational readiness Collaborate with other team members to prioritize maintenance tasks and ensure efficient workflow Performs other related work as required or requested by the Highway Superintendent or the Director of Public Works. Qualifications Associate degree with one to three- (1-3) years of work-related experience Proven mechanical knowledge with experience in vehicle maintenance and repair Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments such as ohmmeters Strong understanding of mechanical systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair guides clearly Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail and safety procedures Prior experience working on municipal or fleet vehicles is preferred but not required Valid driver's license; CDL license is a plus but not mandatory Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities Considerable working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in the repair and maintenance of public works automotive and operational equipment; knowledge of department operations; working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements pertaining to the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment. Ability to perform a variety of maintenance and repair activities on light and heavy equipment and manual labor under varying weather conditions; ability to follow instructions and carry our assigned tasks. Ability to read and interpret work orders and equipment repair manuals. Demonstrated skill in the use of tools and equipment used in the automotive repair trade. Physical Demands Work requires moderate intermittent physical strength and effort daily, such as, lifting heavy objects (over 60 lbs. but less than 100 lbs.), carrying the object(s) and stacking them or placing them in a vehicle or storage area. In addition, pulling, pushing, standing, or walking for the full workday may also be involved. A great deal of physical effort must be exerted at this level.
