BRIEF DESCRIPTION
This is a skilled mechanical position for the Fire Equipment Maintenance shop along with equipment at the various fire stations. Responsible for planning, organizing, and participating in the maintenance, repair, and fabrication of fire equipment and apparatus including station equipment, automobiles, fire engines, trucks, ladders and pumps. Responsible for assisting in the development of equipment specifications, acceptance testing and recommendations of retirement of equipment. Maintenance reports are maintained for accuracy.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License Class "B" with an "N" endorsement within twenty-four months of hire date.
Must be Emergency Vehicle Technician certified and meet NFPA standards within twenty-four months of hire date.
Must be Automotive Service Excellence (or equivalent) certified within twenty-four months of hire date. Driver's License Required•Y Type•B Endorsements•
N OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must carry a pager and/or cell phone 24/7 for emergency repairs.

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
2 V Oversees the repair and maintenance of equipment and apparatus. Personally repairs the overhaul and maintenance of all engines, pumps, and other automotive and mechanical Fire Department Equipment and tools. Repairs electrical and hydraulic components of equipment; repairs and couples fire houses; personally makes more difficult repairs to apparatus and equipment. Designs and fabricates special equipment for fire apparatus or fire station buildings and facilities. Instructs firefighters in the proper care and use of equipment. Instructs mechanics and helpers in proper repairs methods and procedures.
3 H Maintains various records and annual service program. Develops and oversees the implementation of an annual servicing program for all fire apparatus equipment. Conducts and supervises tests to determine the operating efficiency of various pieces of equipment. Participates in the maintenance of various records pertaining to time and mileage, use of equipment, lubrication needs, replacement of tires, parts, and repairs on all equipment. Orders supplies and replacement parts and maintains inventory records.

M Bid Specifications:
Assist in the preparation of bid specifications for fire apparatus and equipment; inspects trucks and plants during assembly to ensure conformance with specifications; and conducts acceptance testing of equipment upon delivery.
5 S Maintains Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification, takes continuing education training, attends annual conferences and classes to keep current with requirements and maintain certifications. Takes required test to obtain and maintain Level I up to Master Level for Emergency Vehicle Technician Certifications.

•Description of Minimum Job Requirements•Formal Education Requires Associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
Experience Over four years and up to and including eight years.
