Job Description

Description The Shop Helper plays a key support role within our all-makes OEM commercial truck dealership, working alongside technicians to keep operations running smoothly and efficiently. This position is responsible for assisting technicians with basic tasks and minor repairs, staging tools and parts, and ensuring a safe, clean, and organized shop environment. The Shop Helper actively supports workflow throughout the service department, contributing to overall productivity and maintaining the high standards our customers expect. Responsibilities Work alongside experienced Technicians to develop foundational skills and techniques needed to perform light repairs and basic service tasks. Assist with preventative maintenance on medium- and heavy-duty trucks, including inspections, fluid services, lubrication, and component checks. Support Technicians by helping complete accurate and timely repair order documentation, ensuring all work performed is clearly recorded. Actively participate in the dealership's learning and development path, building competencies required to advance to the next technician level. Develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become qualified to perform certified state DOT inspections under supervision. Maintain shop cleanliness and organization by performing routine housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, waste disposal, equipment cleaning, and maintaining safe, orderly work areas. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Valid Driver's License; CDL license or willingness to obtain one in the future. Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in diesel, automotive, or heavy equipment repair. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with attention to detail. Willingness to learn and take direction from senior Technicians and Service Leadership. Ability to safely operate basic hand tools and shop equipment (training provided as needed). Reliable work ethic, punctuality, and a positive, team-oriented attitude. Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in various shop environments.
