April 21, 2026 Position Summary The HVAC Service Technician is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of commercial HVAC systems across the Sacramento and Northern California market, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard of quality on every service call. This position covers all service technician levels (ST1 through ST3), with progression governed by a skills-based level matrix rather than tenure alone. Position Levels ST1
Service Technician 1
Entry-level — learning HVAC fundamentals, safety, basic maintenance, and documentation. Works under close supervision and supports senior technicians. ST2
Service Technician 2
Fully competent — performs standard maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs independently with reliable troubleshooting and strong documentation habits. ST3
Service Technician 3
Advanced — strong diagnostics and minimal supervision.
Handles complex calls, mentors junior techs, and assists the Senior Service Technician. Key Responsibilities Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of HVAC systems including RTUs, split systems, VRF, boilers, and chillers. Conduct system start-ups, commissioning, and troubleshooting across basic to advanced diagnostic scenarios. Follow all company and industry safety protocols on every call — daily safety meetings, lockout/tagout, PPE. Log all work accurately and completely in Service Fusion before leaving each job site (timecards, work orders, materials, photos). Communicate findings and recommendations clearly and professionally with customers at every service call. Maintain assigned tools, equipment, and service vehicle to B&M Mechanical's standard. Recognize when to escalate diagnostic challenges or unresolved issues to the Senior Technician. Support the team through peer-to-peer learning; ST2/ST3 technicians actively mentor entry-level team members. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Prior experience in commercial HVAC service and repair required for ST2 and ST3 levels. EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II minimum; Universal preferred) required for ST2 and ST3. Courses or classes with equipment manufacturers with VFDs, Boilers and specific manufacturing preferred Demonstrated experience with commercial HVAC systems (RTUs, split systems, VRF, boilers, and/or chillers) strongly preferred. Experience with Service Fusion or similar field service management software preferred. NATE certification or factory certifications on major equipment brands are a strong plus. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry 50-75 lbs of tools, equipment, and materials regularly. Must be able to work at heights, on rooftops, and in confined spaces safely. Must be able to work in varied outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. Must be able to drive a company service vehicle to multiple job sites daily.
