Service Manager Opportunity Overview A well-established, family-owned commercial mechanical and custom fabrication contractor in Northern Illinois is seeking a skilled Journeyman Service Technician to join its growing service division. Known for high craftsmanship standards, strong leadership, and a supportive, team-focused culture, the company provides stable, year-round commercial and industrial HVAC work. This position is ideal for a motivated technical professional who excels at complex troubleshooting, takes pride in quality workmanship, and values a respectful, well-supported work environment.
Key Responsibilities Diagnostics & Service:
Diagnose, repair, service, and maintain commercial and industrial HVAC equipment, including RTUs, boilers, furnaces, make-up air units, exhaust systems, and control systems.
Maintenance & Inspections:
Perform routine preventative maintenance, safety checks, and system tune-ups across regional job sites.
Technical Interpretation:
Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications.
Client & Team Communication:
Clearly communicate diagnostic findings, repair recommendations, and job status to customers and internal management.
Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to all trade safety protocols, OSHA standards, and EPA guidelines for refrigerant handling.
Preferred Qualifications Experience:
Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC service experience preferred.
Union Status:
Current Journeyman status in good standing with the union (or qualified and ready to operate at the Journeyman level).
Certifications:
EPA Universal Certification and a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Core Strengths:
Strong diagnostic abilities, independent problem-solving skills, dependability, and a professional, customer-focused attitude.
Physical Demands:
Ability to navigate rooftops, climb ladders, access mechanical rooms, and lift up to 50 lbs as required.
Work Schedule & Perks Schedule:

Travel:
Local regional service area (primarily within a ~100-mile radius); no regular overnight travel required.
Compensation & Benefits:
