Job Description

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead HVAC Technician to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and mechanical systems across diverse commercial and industrial settings. Your expertise will ensure optimal system performance, energy efficiency, and safety compliance. As a leader on the team, you will mentor junior technicians, coordinate complex projects, and uphold the highest standards of quality and customer service. Responsibilities Lead the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems including air conditioning units, boilers, refrigeration systems (including ammonia refrigeration), and building automation systems. Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, electrical diagrams, and mechanical blueprints to accurately diagnose issues and execute repairs. Perform electrical diagnostics using tools such as ohmmeters to identify faults within electrical systems and ensure proper functioning of HVAC equipment. Conduct mechanical systems repair including welding, plumbing connections, equipment troubleshooting, and mechanical systems repair to maintain system integrity. Oversee HVAC system installation projects from start to finish, ensuring adherence to safety standards, codes, and client specifications. Utilize hand tools and specialized equipment for precise repairs and installations while maintaining a safe work environment. Provide exceptional customer service by communicating clearly with clients about system issues, repair procedures, and maintenance recommendations. Maintain detailed service records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs to track system performance and compliance requirements. Supervise junior technicians by providing guidance on technical tasks such as electrical systems troubleshooting, HVAC/R maintenance, building automation controls, and mechanical repairs. Qualifications Proven construction experience with a strong background in HVAC system installation and repair in commercial or industrial settings. Service technician experience with a focus on HVAC/R systems including refrigeration (ammonia refrigeration preferred), boilers, air conditioning units, and mechanical systems. Proficiency in reading schematics, technical drawings, electrical diagrams, and blueprints essential for diagnostics and repairs. Mechanical knowledge covering HVAC design principles, plumbing connections, equipment troubleshooting, welding techniques, and building automation systems. Hands-on experience with electrical diagnostics using tools such as ohmmeters; familiarity with electrical systems within HVAC units is required. Strong understanding of HVAC system maintenance practices to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency. Ability to operate hand tools safely and effectively; experience with welding is a plus. Knowledge of refrigerants including EPA certification for handling refrigerants safely in compliance with environmental regulations. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients. Valid certifications related to HVAC (such as EPA certification), electrical systems or plumbing are highly desirable.
